We all know how easy one can get bankrupt clicking all the options ( we have > 40 K in options). The gist of our order: I wanted all the goodies on the preformance package (PDCC, PTV) , wife wanted all the safety features (adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, rear-view camera etc). I wanted Burmester, she wanted XM, we both wanted the panorama roof and two-tone interior. I am a big fan of natural leather and there was only one two-tone color option for the natrual leather. So there goes our rationale for the splurge. Hey we only live once and our kids will only be with us for the next 5 years before they are headed to college. Hence the biologic clock for our family hauler has already started its countdown.


A few questions:

1. How do you think the seatbelts in cognac and instrument gauges in Luxor
Beige blend with the two tone interior.
2. We will not be off-roading. How useful would the underbody protection be or
should I just bag it ?
3. I will be ordering a winter set up with 18 inch wheels mounted on snow
tires. Hence will be going with the summer performance tires. What wheel
option would you go for: the 19 or 20 inch ?
4. Any major hits/misses on the above order ?
5. Thoughts on running boards: Yes or no ?

 

We just ordered an S - not as loaded.
Did you not order the rear side airbags?

What is the delivery? - ours is early Dec. build - mid Jan. delivery.

I would bag the under body protection. Not to take away your options, but I watched that video posted of autospies and the most noteable upgrade was the PTV, not the PDCC. Can anyone else chime in? running boards...no! The luxor beige dials, etc. yes! I would the 20's, 19's just don't do it for me. Sounds like a great build!!!! Can't wait to see the pics!

 

How about voice control for the PCM unit. If it works like they claim (natural voice for all controls, inclduing Nav, phone, radio)...it should be pretty cool... Not that expensive either.

I like your build...totally loaded...but if I were spending $107K+ I'd get the Turbo w/less of the bells and whistles....

My dealer told me you can't order running boards with the underbody protection (you get rock rails instead), but you can get mud flaps (Tequipment?) with the underbody package. So, if you're not going off-road, I would skip the underbody and opt for the running boards. They will offer some protection for the sides of your S. As long as you stay with 18" rims for your snow tires, you will have access to a good variety. I have had good luck with Nokian and Michelin Alpin.

Sounds like a great package to me, but as above, you're in turbo territory pricewise...

 

Going to see the dealer this weekend to talk all the details ie: Build date, trade in value for our minivan and hopefully atleast a 3 to 4 % discount for the custom order. Over the phone I was told that it would be a late Dec build but nothing finalized yet. I will keep you all posted.

Very nice comments guys. Turbo will be too much power for my wife. She will be using it 90 % of the time and would rather have all the bells and whistles on her CS than go for a TT. I have a '09 GT silver 997.2 C4S with full leather (natural grey) interior (see pic) as my DD.

BKcarrera, DRJMK, rome, mudman, overdraft, norsk, thank you for the responses/suggestions. Some changes have been made after reviewing pros and cons:

1. Changed stock wheels to 19 inch turbo's with summer performance (will
be ordering a 18 inch aftermarket winter set up).
2. Cancelled the underbody protection and running boards.
3. Doubt we will ever listen to XM radio..so that's gone (is that a bad idea to
do that ? ) I am not too worried about resale value.
4. Added rear seat airbags.
5. Got rid of the heated windscreen for thermally and noise insulated glass
and the thermally and noise insulated glass. The tint would be too heavy
for my liking andwife is concerned about night time visibility that is the
reason for our decision.
6. Added PCM voice control.

 

I agree with not opting for the underbody protection if you are not going offroad. I witnessed the running boards on my LR3 save my doors from dings -and administer payback in return to the inconsiderate, but they seem out of place on a Cayenne. I really like PDCC, and I think in combination with the PTV it would be mind blowing. Even though you are not going offroad, PDCC is equally amazing offroad too.

I'll second that.

 

I was thinking like you about the power but when I loaded up an S I was within $10K of the TT and the TT has several things (at least in 08 that you could not get with the S (forged crank and all leather interior) I felt it was right to get TT. I dropped it one setting on air suspension (Barrier did it for me) and run 19" winter and 21" summer wheels (both tire sets are Pirelli). Both combinations have worked out great. We have been to many of the western ski areas in the winter and towed 5000# plus boats to Chelan, Pend Orielle and Flathead. I also use it as daily driver to/from/on construction sites. Outstanding vehicle. You will enjoy the ride.

 

If its for the wife I would drop the PDCC, she will never get the benefit from it, also the adaptive cruise control, 95% of people with it do not use it (MB figures).

 

Mudman, I also debated on the $ 2.5K for the ACC. Many experts tell that it can help reduce rear-end collisions and I am all for spending it on the safety front. Agreed that she will never come close to a spirited driving that you and I would however the one thing the she hates about her minivan (other than the unsupportive seats) is the bodyroll and that is impressively suppressed by the PDCC. That is the main reason they say that the Cayenne turns into a corner more keenly than any other SUV.

 

I would go with 20" simply because 275-40-20 is a more common size than 275-45-19. If you look on tirerack.com, you have 30 tires to choose from on the 20" versus only 13 on the 19". So when replacement time comes, it will be much easier to find. And if you need new tires when you sell the vehicle you can just slap the cheapest thing you can find which is $108 a piece

I have 275-45-19 on my 06 S, my choices are very limited and my local tire store doesn't stock it at all. Doesn't matter if I need a set or just one for emergency, they have to order it and it will take few days.
