Default QR1 - Compas Display in Instrument Cluster Option Questions!

I picked up a 2005 Cayenne a few weeks back and while it is in at Porsche getting some things looked over I asked them to check on the absence of the compass display in the instrument cluster. According to two options lists the car has the QR1 options which is the "Compass Display in Instrument Cluster." I figured it was just a quick software fix...

Well according to the dealership the first go round that meant it was only available on the map. I found a picture showing it in the insturment cluster and they then told me it was only offered on CDR cars (CD Radio I assume) which doesn't make much sense to me.

So who is right? I think from the research I've done, the fact that the build list CLEARLY says "...in instrument cluster" and that I've found a picture with it in there says it should be there.

They're saying it shouldn't be...

Maybe somebody can post a picture of their instrument cluster with it for me?

Thanks guys!

Based on your VIN your car should have the IQR1/8DU Magnetic-Field Sensor Compass Module installed (Part Number 955 642 023 00) The Cluster must be programmed to show this information maybe there a problem with the module or the car's set up in PIWIS.

You're awesome thanks for the help!

I do have a compass on the map just not in the cluster. Does the Compass Module effect that or is it specific to the cluster display option QR1? In other words does the compass in the map use a different compass device than for the clsuter display?

I am not sure, but I am guessing someone else can chip in and help. I was under the impression that if the car had the unit in it it would show, when selected, on the display.

Got it you've been a HUGE help thanks!

If you've got time for another question I have one, haha! I'd hate to start another thread when you'd probably be the one answering it!

The key fob hasn't worked since I got the truck. I was told it worked and was more concerned with other items when buying the truck. The dealer says it "doesn't work because it is the "wrong frequency" being 433 vs 356 and doesn't have a panic button. Does that sound right? Do ALL the keys have the panic button by default?

Key fobs are a problem, and can be expensive. The dealer needs to hook up the car to PIWIS and reset the keys, I have never heard of the frequency excuse before, new on on me, got my BS detectors flashing tho

Yeah apparently there are two versions so I assume I have the wrong one.

I also heard back about the Compass Display and apparently it will be a $110 charge since it isn't "warranty work" but rather a reprogramming of functions...

I kind of want to force the issue but being "new" to this dealer and having a friend who works there as a sales guy I don't want to put a bad taste in their mouth so they won't help in the future if something comes up. So far a bit frustrating though...

Putter, I think the dealers concept on "warranty" is skewed in his favor!!

No kidding. If he wants to play that then I'll just claim that since it isn't displaying and it should that the whole cluster is defective and the need to replace it, make sure the programming is correct and go about it that way. I'm sure it would only take like 5 minutes to program it.

CPO covers "Comfort Electronics" so I don't see this as being something that needs to be "re-programmed when it should already be there. If anything it is a "defect" in the programming. Defect=Warranty right?!

Got it didn't know that.

Out of curiosity I talked to another local dealer who said it IS covered and that they'd be more than happy to do it for me. Go figure...

Oh this is just turning into a comical drama...

So I hear through my buddy who is playing messenger that they are atill looking into the issue with my NAV and PCM. Apparently there is a thought out there that my NAV may have been added "after the fact" on the car. I mentioned that all Turbos should have NAV standard and was told "Yes and no" that they all come with the screen but maybe not the hardware for the NAV to work...

...um what?
