Maybe cut the Premium Plus package back to the Convenence Package, drop PTV and the heated windscreen and go for the 'S' with the savings. Plus, with the S you'll get the nicer wheels for free and some other freebes that come wth the S.

If you don't lke that plan, I would at least bag the wheels and get the Cayenne S III wheels. The base wheels for the non-S look very cheap to my eye (like they have in the prior Cayennes) and almost every base Cayenne will come with them because its a free option. $390 gets you the S wheels.

Good luck with order, either way, you are going to love it.

BTW-- Do you know if the non smoker options gets you a cig lighters or outlet in the same spot. My dealer didn't know.

Thanks Rome for the input - recognize you from the 997 forum. Really like your idea on the wheels. I hadn't considered that all the folks buying the base model will make the standard wheel mundane at best.

My thinking on Cayenne non-S is that I already have 385hp in the 997.2 - can go a little lighter in the daily driver Cayenne. I guess it's my small concession to being a little "greener".

Don't know about the lighters/outlets question.

Glad to hear that I'm going to love the car. Do I have to refer to it as a Pig as others on this forum do? If yes, what do I call the 997?

Default Go for the S

The vehicle dynamics are so totally different and much less rewarding in my opinion.
At least try and spend some time in both before placing the order.

21.4 mpg on the V6 as compared to 19.5 mpg on the "S". 236 g/km C02 emissions on the V6 as compared to 245 g/km on the "S". Not that much more greener than you may have thought it would be and a better resale on the "S" later on if you decide to buy it back.

Actually, the Germans call it a "heisser ofen" which when translated, means motorcycle. They are of course referring to it's superb handling.

I like Rome's idea. I cannot tell you how many times I've thought even the S wasn't powerful enough. You'll be bored to death in a V6.

If you can't do that at least get nicer and bigger wheels. They make the exterior appearance difference in any car.

I'd rather have a stripped S than a loaded non-S. My advice is to spec an S and then add options up to your budget. dave

BTW, Is Auto Start/Stop (part of the 8 speed Tiptronic package) user selectable? In other words, can I shut it off?

Yes..there is a push button on the console to de-activate. The beefed up ignition system was built to take the wear and tear, but the guide still cautions that you should expect to replace the consumable parts with frequent use.
