After a fellow Rennlister recommended Armor All Wheel Protectant, I though I'd try it out...but after a little web research. Unfortunately not much out there, so I made my own little video:
Nice job! I went out yesterday trying to find the stuff and not available here. On another note, I saw an ad for Mothers All Wheel & Tire Cleaner. I bought it. SUPPOSEDLY, spray on, rinse off the brake dust. Does not work. It does interact with the tire sidewall, but does not take of the dust on the rim without elbow grease. Simple Green does the same with a better spray patten imo.
Just finished my application to all rims. Took them off and cleaned off tar, etc. and let dry. With the rims off, I cleaned the calipers and also sprayed them when dry. It is an easy application, like spraying on a clear coat. It does take a while to dry though.
This stuff REALLY works. In my case I would say that there is a 50-70% reduction in brake dust.
When I applied it there were a few small spots on the outer rim of the wheel (right at the tire) that didn't get sprayed. This an area that doesn't get anywhere near as dirty as the "spoke" area. After a couple of weeks, even those surfaces are 50% grey with dust while the rest of the wheel looks completely clean.
Two thumbs up from me! I used this stuff a week and a half ago before we went on vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC. Over 1000 miles later and the wheels look great. A huge reduction in brake dust.
Hmm I may have to try this stuff, because I know my wheels get very dirty. I have not even used any wheel cleaner, just taken through the car wash and got the rain-x stuff for the wheels, but even then after 2 days they get all this black dirt and dust on them. So I will probably go and get some tomorrow, because I know mine really needs it. The Cayenne Turbo is the first car/SUV I have seen collect so much dirt on the rims.
