Default Washer Fluid leak

Did a quick search and found some mention of headlight washers leaking. I don't see a leak, do they actually leak or does a torrent of water come out so if I wash my windshield at night while at speed, four tugs dumps out 2 gallons of fluid at the front?

Yeah they can leak, but nobody can tell exactly what your vehicle does or doesn't do over the internet.

Why not just do a test in your driveway? Have someone operate the washer while you watch. It may be difficult to tell exactly how much it leaks because if it is a small one at the fitting it may take a while to drip down and in the meantime the fluid you sprayed on the headlight will also drip down. But at least you'll know if it is worth worrying about.

That's all I was looking for, if it is a common thing on this car for the headlight washers to go defective, or if it usually is a broken filler neck, or the headlight rubs against a hose and those usually go, etc.

Basically querying the group knowledge base here instead of dissembling the whole system looking for leaks, I would rather start with known common issues if any. I fill the tank up with two large bottles, and don't recall using the washer fluid but in 3 weeks a light comes on. In my touareg I usually go between 5000 mile oil changes and fill it then with no light lit up. I figure it is the same size tank. I have not seen any obvious peeing on the driveway.

My dealer says I have a leaking one and I have never been able to "prove" that claim.

first try removing left headlight and look thru with a flashlight (torch) see if the filler tube is detached, if so push it back in

When the headlight washers leak, it is usually from the washer jet. It may leave a puddle, it may not. Look for dried washer fluid at the seam on the washer jet (after removing the headlight).

Well I found something, not worth posting pics. The long white filler tube looked good, but I pushed it in near the tank (behind the right hand light) and it went in about 2 inches and I think clicked.

Let's see if that makes a difference!

Well I still had a leak, pulled the bumper off and found it was leaking at either the joint where the hose connects or the rotating connection on the washer jet itself. I pulled the plastic C clip on the US passenger side jet and drained the tank, cleaned it out, rotated the connection to loosen up the joint and let it sit in the sun for a while, while I replaced a headlight mount/tray (another story)

Put it all back together and it is not leaking for now, I am sure it will in a few days again.

No if i can just find out how the water is getting in the back hatch....

So it has been nearly a month now and no leak, I am assuming the O ring on the C clip had dried out and leaked a that joint. Seems to be good for now...

Thanks for sharing about the washer fluid leak. I will try the same as I am not sure where the fluid is going.

I too had a washer fluid leak... was traced back to the intensive washer body assembly. Once replaced, leak ceased.

Not a problem, still doesn't leak, but I suspect I am on borrowed time, once the winter comes, i am sure it may leak again.
