Default Brake Pads and Rotors For CTT

Hello I have the brake pad workshop light and was told by an independent workshop that they couldn't just do pads because 1/3rd of the way through the new pads life the rotors would warp since the Pig's are so heavy.

Is this true or should I just change the pads?

I just did pads and sensors on my first brake service. I did measure the rotors to make sure they were well within spec, which they were. You can find the spec on here by searching - sorry I don't remember the numbers off the top fo my head.

BTW - 20,000+ miles later, I haven't noticed any symptoms of warped rotors.

i call b.s.
just do pads. but stick w/ factory pads.
can always turn the rotors.
also, call a tuner or another shop for 2nd opinion.

I don't think I'd turn the rotors. If they are in bad shape, I'd replace them. I agree with your comments on OEM pads, but many others have chosen other makes.

I had just shy of 40k on my 06 S when the light came on -- The rotors/pads/sensors and all the hardware including the caliper bolts came to just over $500.00 including shipping - Sunset. The debate on cutting rotors or not keeps changing back and forth as time goes by. I can say one thing -- those rotors are heavy. I have moved to the "no cut" side on my cars.

Since I may keep the S - my feelings were that by replacing the rotors I will more than likely get another 40k of trouble free miles. The rotors looked great but considering the cost of the other parts it was not worth risking it and having to replace everything early.

i agree with replacing the rotors, especially if it's been anywhere near 40k miles. i'd think even if flat there would be some significant lip at the edge no?

I just did front pads on my Touareg V10 last night (same brakes as the CTT). I installed Hawk HPS pads as I have always had good luck with them in my 993 for street purposes. We'll see how they do on the Treg. Still waiting on the rears as they are on back order from Tirerack. Incedently, my light came on at just over 24k mi. Doesn't help that the V10 weighs around 5800lbs and the fact that I used it in a track event last year. I did not bother doing anything with the rotors. At 24k I am sure they have enough life to last through another set of pads. Doing a pad change only is so simple on these cars.

Went ahead and did the front rotors and pads. Cost - $469 parts from Pelican, and $30 to rent out a shop. Saved about $550 by not going to the dealer.

Still have the Brake Pads Workshop idiot light on though, do I need to have the dealer reset?

Also the rear rotors had very little lip, while the fronts lip was SIGNIFICANT to say the least
