Default reset check engine light

Hello everyone,

I recently replaced the cracked coils on my 05 CS but the check engine light has not turned off. Should it have turned off on its own? Is there some secret key button sequence that I could do to make this go away? No warranty left so I don't want to take her to dealer. Thanks for your help.

Get yourself a Durametric, reset it yourself. I think it might go away after a number of restarts

Have you checked your gas cap seal?
Any other obvious reasons for a CEL ?

Unless the number of restarts is >50 it doesn't go away. Will see if anyone in the Coils thread saw it go away. Been looking at the durametric but would rather save the green guys if i can. Thanks for your reply.

Itc, it would have been excellent timing for that to happen in between the initial computer read and repair time (coils) but stranger things have happened. good point. I can always go get another free reading from autozone see if it is still reading cylinder missfire or what. Thought there was some kinda of secret code to reset it like the service indicator.

I only mention gas cap seal since a couple of forum regulars have experienced problems with it lately.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the CEL is almost always associated with an OBDII Fault Code. As such, it should be resettable using any generic OBDII scanner. That is certainly the case on Mercedes-Benz. Not sure about Porsche, as this is new ground for me.

Cracked coils lead to misfires. Generic OBDII scanner can read and reset cylinder misfire codes. Durametric might be a good investment, but for this task it is not better than a cheap handheld scanner from your local tool store.

I've heard the generic OBDII scanner can't reset the service warning on Porsche.

Service and CEL light are two different things.

CEL light is a fancy emissions issues light, it is there to get people to take the car in because it is not running to spec and is doing things to pollute more than intended. As someone mentioned above, I have not tried this on my cayenne yet, but my generic ODBII tool I have been using for about 7 years now has always reset these lights (CEL) on all cars foreign and domestic I tried it on. ODBII is a spec and I have not heard of a manufacture not following it. Obviously adding things to it is different.

Default OBD Scanner

I have an Actron CP9125 OBD II pocket scan purchased from the local auto supply for about $90.

It cleared a MAFS code that was self induced.

It should clear any Workshop Code but it will not reset the Maintenance Alert.
