Default Interior: Around the shifter looking dodgy

Has anyone done anything about that black coating that is the surface around the shifter? Mine is looking pitted and kind of crappy. I was in a friend's Touareg and even those have faux wood that looks better.

It appears that the coating is some sort of rubbery substance. I tried cleaning it but it did not help at all. I think it tends to get worse with age and especially heat during the summer.

What you are referring to is "soft touch plastics" Yeah after about 4 or 5 years the stuff starts to flake off, I have even seen it happen after a couple of years. Not much you can do except don't touch it or replace the part. or remove all the soft touch material from the part.

Is there anything that you can put over it? Any decent aftermarket parts? I would not even attempt to remove the stuff, that is a recipe for disaster. And I cannot imagine what it would cost to replace the entire center console.

I wonder if you can use 3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/c...take-look.html

looks like it would work. Or maybe non carbon fiber look ... just black.

Default Dash trim overlay?

I am wondering if there are "custom" fit/cut options in the 100's of different wood/CF/Brushed Alu/etc... A simple black would look good.

Check out part #31 on eBay item #330391942819 (no affiliation to me at all)

Some years ago, we had a couple of these (part nr 31 ^) covered in black leather because of this problem.
I still have one left over, in case someone would be interested...

Here is a picture of the console.
It's a brand new and original Porsche part that was covered in black leather.

Bump. I started this thread a while ago and since then mine is getting to look horrible. Thought I would throw it out there again.

I actually tried to clean it and made it ever worse. The rest of my interior looks like new, except for anything with this soft touch crap.

Has anyone just replace the part? Cost? Anymore of those leather covered ones out there?

Mine just started on the door switches -- the steering wheel black switches are also looking funny? The dealer has ordered some of the parts already

Can anybody list the parts that are covered in this "soft touch" I never noticed it on my shifter. I guess I should pay more attention

Want to take care of it while its still covered !

Mine was looking crappy.

Thought I would give some of the vinyl stuff a try. Sorry, not the best picture.
