Gert,

Can you send some details? Pricing? Do you need a parts swap?

Something you might consider for a cheap fix.

Duplicolor truck bed liner in a spray can offers about the same type of texture. A bit more textured, but also a bit more durable. Stuff is about $7 a can at any local auto parts store.

I would bet with some light scuffing of the console area with sand paper to get the loose stuff off, you could spray and it would look good.

I've used the stuff for all sorts of stuff for years. (Sorry, only pics I have. This is the rear hatch trim on a 951)

Thanks.

The center console comes out of these things in about 30 seconds. Under the rubber matt in the lower portion of the console is the tool to take the 2 screws out that hold the piece in. It just pulls up and out from there.

there is a far amount of this stuff in the '11.

There is an option to cover it in leather by it is VERY expensive (I'm getting "full leather", but it doesn't cover these bits). I have only 3 complaints about the new interior and this is the bigegst.

(The others are: 1. grab handles seem a little flimsy; and 2. no sunglass holder anymore in the roof liner).

I have yet to find andy soft touch stuff that will spray smooth. The bed liner stuff is actually soft to the touch and kinda rubbery.

Here is a second option for a cheap way to fix it. At any local auto parts store you will find a can of spray paint called "Bumper Black". Somewhere around $5 a can.

It is intended as an exterior paint so it is VERY durable. Sand the loose pieces of your center console and spray with this to give a nice even coat.

I did this on a marred up factory Audi S4 wood trim piece. The black shifter surround in this picture is painted with "bumper black". The paint job in this picture is also about 5 years old and has taken lots of abuse from keys and cell phones. It leaves a nice satin/matte finish that looks totally factory.

Cole, thanks for the tips.

I have used Bumper Black on a couple of old 911's I brought back to life. I have not played DIY in quite a while and am losing my touch!

Unfortunately there are just some quirks with cars that come up that shops don't seem to address well. (At least not at reasonable prices).

Could you imagine the chore it would have been to have a shop deal with my sunfaded 944 hatch trim?
-Negotiate price
-Drop car off, get ride home. (gas+my time+someone elses time)
-Wait a couple of days, week?
-Find ride back to shop. (gas+my time+someone elses time)
-Pay $100-300?

OR

$7 and about 30 min total of my time. (most of it taking pictures of the process to post here) In total, less time and money than dealing with a shop for some of these little tasks. (Just pick and choose the battles wisely. My CTT is in the shop now getting the trans seal fixed)
