PCM replacement - w/ DVD, iPod, etc... Has anyone had experience with this?
All,
I have a '04 Cayenne S.
I like the car, but hate the PCM unit.
Saw this online...
http://www.autodvdgps.com/porsche-ca...pms-p-555.html
...which is a replacement for the PCM, which looks like it packs a great amount of new capabilities into that same box. (Color, DVD, iPod, and all the current PCM fun like GPS, etc)
Has anyone in this forum purchased one? Experience with it?
I would appreciate feedback.
Thanks!

I too have considered trying to add PCM to my 04 cayenne. As of now I have the regular Becker CDR-23 which "sounds" good paired with the Bose, but of course, has limited functionality. I wonder how hard this is to install in a CS that doesn't have PCM currently. Looks like a really slick unit. I think you should buy one, install it, and then tell us how you like it

It is obviously not a "plug and play" unit since it lacks a MOST interface.
That having been said, a competent audio shop can clearly install this, since it is traditional analog (copper wires) based interface....nothing new.
To be used as a powered headunit (no external amplifier), you will need to have cables run from the rear cargo area (where the amplifier is) to the front dash in order to make the speaker connections available at the rear of the headunit...again, something a good audio shop can do.
You can find installations of non OEM headunits in the 996 and 986 forums, since the infotainment design is 95% identical between Carreras/Boxsters and Cayennes.
good luck.

Lewis,
Thanks... I should have seen that. Good point!
Jplumlee,
Great Idea! send me a check, and I will do so!
...While I wait for that check, I have sent the manufacturer an email to see if they do or have plans to integrate w/ MOST.
While the unit sounds great, if the system expects me to rewire, then, for me, it's a no-go.
