The Base (V6) is generally considered to be underpowered.
The S is generally considered to be quite adequate.
The Turbo is about what you would expect from a Turbo
The Turbo S isn't a huge improvement over a Turbo.

Naked Cayenne ownership is a personal choice, usually made late at night when no one can hear you crying.
A CPO does give 'peace of mind' and is in almost all cases superior to aftermarket warranties (almost all of which won't cover cracked heater tubes... since they're plastic).

The 2007 Cayenne is incredibly rare. There has never been a documented case of a real one, in the wild or captivity.
The 2003-2004 Cayennes...man, those were the days.

As for , I'm pretty sure that the P!g Pen consumes more than all other forums on Rennlist combined.

I'd like to mention that I have NEVER cried late at night, and as my avatar (disregard the tiny bikini, it is there for your own good, anyway) suggests, I've been nekkid slightly over 51k miles now. I think everyone should try riding a P!G naked. There's nothing like it

Not as rare as a '96 Turbo!

EDIT: no idea what just happened, but here's what it was supposed to look like before it did.

fair price? to many miles?
The price seems a bit high to me, especially given the fact that it is a beta (2004) and has fairly high mileage.

I'd look for something 2005 or newer. If you find one you like, insist on complete service records and a solid PPI before you buy it.

How much are you looking to spend? I would say it ranges anywhere from $20k (high mileage, stories...) to $100k+ (almost new Turbos). So a ballpark figure would help which model or years you should look for. As far as maint., I found it to be the same as 911. I have a 06 **** and a 04 996 GT3. But both are very low in mileage so only things I have done are oil changes and brake fluid flush.

I am in a similar situation with 2 little ones and as much as I love my 996 Twin Turbo, riding the Cayenne S has its own comfort pluses. Its maintenance is no different than any other Porsche, it is EXPENSIVE, unless you are the DIY person. You will certainly find lots of information re: common problems (coolant tubes....etc.) and like any other used car there is also the owner's luck factor.

I say %100 yes to buying one with CPO. This year alone I spent over $5k in Cayenne (05 model w 64k miles) maintenance and repairs. I hope that it will be a smoother ride from here on...I think you would enjoy the car when it comes to hauling precious family, going to Home Depot or even chasing some sporty sedans.

Best of luck.

Budget is a slight issue, only looking to spend 30-35k.

Try finding an '06 Turbo with CPO. It will be tough however given that we're about to get into 2010. If you can swing a bit more budget-wise, you might be able to find a good 2008 S in that range. You'll want to look for options like PCM, air suspension and (my personal favorite) Bi-Xenon lights. iPod/MP3 support would be nice. And you'll get extra points if you get the factory phone module (be aware that you will only be successful using the factory GSM phone if you're a T-Mobile customer...... Don't ask). Let us know how your search proceeds.

And yes, we are a bit caustic here in this forum. You have to understand that many of us have endured plenty of trials from Volkw.... (ummmmm) Porshce AG. Some of us even engineered components that ultimately found their way into production vehicles. And some of us have actually READ wiring diagrams for this beast. Take the commentary for what it is..... We always have a tendency to have some fun with newer members. You'll hear about squirrels, strange drink mixes, lack of clothing and the like. Just jump in the water and enjoy. You *will* get your questions answered, but you may have to endure some good-natured hazing along the way.

In that range you will have no problem finding an 06 "S" with low mileage and CPO. Might also be able to find an 08 base in that range if the newer body style is important (not that it's drastically different).

I got a FULLY LOADED 06 S from CarMax a year ago for $35k, so you should have no problems.

How about that 05 Turbo advertised here for $29k?

This looks like an incredible deal ($40,900) for a 2006 Turbo S on AutoTrader:

As mentioned above, I suggest looking into 2006 S CPO only, a quick search on autotrader you will find plenty of them to choose from in the $40k range and those are asking price so after some negotiating, many should still be in your budget.

Although I have not driven the 08+ V6, I have read many positive reviews on them. Especially comparing to the pre'06 V6 which IMO is underpowered. So I would look into that as well and you can have a fairly new car.

Given the budget, I would not consider any of the Turbo. I much rather have a newer lower miles car that is CPO with warranty up to 100k I believe. As mentioned many times, these things are expensive when things go wrong.
