Default Wheel Bearings going bad??

Yes, I did a search. Found nothing.

I am getting a strange noise coming from the front of my car at different speeds. At first I thought it may just be the tires but the noise is getting worse and I suspect that my drivers side wheel bearing may be going bad.

04, Cayenne S, 83K on the clock. No mo warranty.

What are the symptoms of a bad bearing? Has anyone had the repair done and if so how much (see above, no mo warranty)?

I had bearings go out on my 964 and it feels real bad - especially when I was on Watkins Glen at speed! Jack up the truck and see if there is play by pushing on the wheel from top and bottom. If it is real bad, it will move considerably.

I don't really "feel" much, it is mostly a noise. No major vibrations either.

Default Same problem

I have exactly the same problem, 78K miles and very noisy at the front end. My control arm bushes are worn but not sure if that's causing the noise.

Any ideas?

Stone43,

My experience with wheel bearings going bad is if your take a turn (say in an exit ramp) you will hear a thud, thud sound if the bearing is shot. Basically a lateral load on the wheel while moving will indicate it best - again my experience.

Hope that helps.

+1 on T2. Lateral loading will make them louder.

If it is constant, then it may be the diff or CV joint.
