Default What's missing - tow package

My GTS came with the "Trailer hitch without hitch ba" for $630. I ***umed that meant I had a standard 7 pin connector in the back, as per the manual. I don't.

Buddy of mine called me last week - some goofy bitch yapping on a cell phone hammered him on his bike. He's ok, but the bike is torn up and at a local tow yard. He needs help getting it.

I think, 'sweet I get to tow with my Cayenne'. Get up under the Cayenne and there is no connector. There is a cover held in place by 4 screws. I remove the cover and there is a female connector in there.

So now here's another assumption - I assume I am suppoed to have some connector that is 7 pin on one end and connects to the harness/plug that's in there? Should this have come with the truck when new? My dealer was worth ****-all when I bought the truck.

You can argue with yor dealer or just go to your local auto parts store and buy the 7 to 4 pin trailer adapter . I honestly can not remember if it came with the towing package on my Cayenne but I had one already so it was not an issue.

I don't remember getting one with my '06 tt s. If I did get one it's probably with my valet key... completely lost. I just searched mine under seats, in storage, etc. and zip.

Your post did help me find the tire inflation hose for the on board air compressor. Who knew?

Mine did not come with but I went back to Barrier and complained and they put it right on, apologizing all the way. Make sure you don't have LED lights only or the trailer will not illuminate properly, need a regular bulb, a resistor or a plug with a resistor to plug into the connector

So is it supposed to come with one, is it dealer only or is it a standard connector that I can buy a 7 pin adapter w/cover to mate up to it?

There is an extensive thread on this already, I went through this when I got my "S" and found the cheapest part came from JC Whitney of all places, about $10 w/ s&h. I'll search for the thread.

Found it Trailer hitch elect conn

Post #24 has the link to the correct part but I would recommend reading the entire thread.

As of the '06 models (don't know about newer ones) that piece does not come with the vehicle. It doesn't make sense to me but hey, neither does paying for floormats on a $80k car.

I think some dealers were adding them but they don't come from the factory with them.

Thanks, Bill. I stopped by my local trailer/RV lot and picked up a Reese connector.

I did search out the trailering threads before I bought my Cayenne, but didn't remember seeing that mentioned.

Wayne, some dealers provide the connector, others charge.

For the record:

Toby's favorite topic is "retrofitting OEM BiXenons into a P!g"....

I never owned a Cayenne (see court documents, available for viewing at PCNA Legal), however Larry's favorite topic was "!" and towing in the dark.

I seem to recall something about duct tape and flash lights.

Careful, you'll cause me to reinvigorate that Bi-Xenon thread!
