If you look at the VW lineup, it is full of redundancies. Seat had/has a completely parallel line to VW in almost all categories. They are typically market based. Meaning, you buy the VW in western Europe and the Seat in central/eastern Europe.

Emotions aside, I suspect the same will apply to Porsche if they truly want to hit 200k cars in four years. They will need to build more P-cars on lines outside of Zuffenhausen.

Or simply begin installing Porsche badges on what are already primarily VAG vehicles. Look at VW vs Audi as a starting point with respect to vehicle commonality.
VAG is very very good at this, trust me....IMHO, almost too good.

The Cayenne provided a brief glimpse into what WW would slap a Porsche crest on, the Boxster demonstrated that a Porsche could be built in Finland.

A few years from now, the '911' may end up being the only Zuffenhausen Porsche model.

I've got to agree with this, I also think the Panamera will do better than expected.

Farewell to the Panamera and Cayenne

September 2nd 2009, BE interactive
Farewell to the Panamera and Cayenne

The power struggle between VW and Porsche has come to an end, and with it will come the end of Wendelin Wiedeking's reign as the director of Porsche. Wiedeking was responsible for shifting production at Porsche's Zuffenhausen factory, which formerly manufactured 2-door sports cars, to building SUVs and sedans.

Meanwhile VW chairman Ferdinand Piëch wants to get Porsche back to its basics. As a result, two Porsche products, the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV, will be scrapped and will disappear at the end of their production cycles in 2016.

In the meantime, we may see an entry-level model, based on a VW platform, that will take after the Porsche 356, along with a sports car to be part of the Carrera GT line.

Although I drive a Cayenne in the winter, good riddance if they manage to flush them. All they did is dilute the brand with these things - they're not Porsches.

Not trying to defend either of them but I guess your statement doesn't make sense. VW now owns Porsche. All Porsche's therefore will be a VW product. Follow the flow here?

I'm sure the new model based off the golf platform will be "purely" Porsche and won't dilute the brand either, right?

This is like a Viagra/Cialis commercial, except I know this will last longer than 4 hours...

Wish you were here Larry
