What are the going deals on a new Cayenne V6?
Looking for something for the wifey. Could go with a 2005 V8 low miles in the high $20s from a private party, or should I look at a new V6 model? MSRP is around $45K. I think 290HP is plenty for her. Anyone know what kind of deals to expect? I'm west coast (So Cal) so hoping there are good deals since everything else is in the toilet right now.

If you want a V6, I suspect that the best deals are on 2008 models with low mileage - they are in the low 40s, depending on options. A similarly equipped 2009 model will run $10k+ more. The primary difference between the 08 ad 09 models is a better PCM... the question is - is it worth $10k to you to get touch-screen nav, bluetooth and aux inputs.

you will likely struggle to find a $45K car (i.e., no options). Most are loaded up to at least $55K...at least on the east coast. I was offered 08's [edit: I meant '09s] with 7k-8k off that 55K starting price with no discussion so deals are there fairly easily.
I ended up going with a used 06 (there are no 07's remember) with a V8 and dont regret it.

I agree with spiderv6, most V6 Cayennes are $55k & up. A friend of mine was shopping for one not too long ago and told me finding one with few options was difficult. The lowest one he found was $51k i think. That said, I do recall reading on forums someone has bought a V6 for around $10k off, not sure if it was a 2008 or 2009. But pretty sure it was brand new.
If you are thinking of used, I suggest you look into 2006 for not much more than a 2005. Reason being lots of 2006 were sold in 2007. Meaning many of these still have a year or more of new car warranty. Assuming they dont have too many miles of course. I know because I bought my 2006 Titanium in Jan 2007 and there were still tons of 2006 inventory. Which is why there were no 2007 Cayennes because of the excess inventory.
When are you planning to buy one? I maybe selling mine but I haven't decided what to replace it with. Mine only has 11k miles on it so it won't be cheap like your sample above. But I do believe it will be a good deal as it has been maintained and cared for PM me if you are interested.

The V6 sucks! Don't do it!
To elaborate...I would go with the used V8. It's a better engine for this very heavy car. Your gas useage will be the same or less with the V8.
I had the V6 and the engine was too small. Even my wife, who could care less about cars, and who drives like a grandma, would NEVER go back to the V6.

My '04 V6 has not sucked in the last 5+ years I've owned it. I didn't buy it to race kids at stoplights; as long it has enough ***** for passing situations and general fun, that's cool with me. A new car warranty is a wonderful comfort, though I had virtually no problems with my 2004 Cayenne.

So that's the route I went and ended up paying $37k for an 06 V8 Titanium with 40K on the clock plus a CPO. So as far as I'm concerned I have a trouble free car for the next three years (at least Porsche will take care of any trouble for me).
You should be able to get a similar car (with a CPO) from low-mid $30s upwards. Good Luck!

I wanted a V8 BAD, but we got an 2005 v6 because it had every option availabe and a pano sunroof. Turns out the V6 is totally fine i have no problems with the power and my wife certainly doesnt. And thats the older lower power version.
