2010 Cayenne Hybrid
Porsche released more details on its upcoming 2010 Cayenne S Hybrid last week, including a sound-bite producing line about going 86 mph without using the gasoline motor.
This truck is shaping up to be very impressive. What do you guys think of it? Is it just vaporware (like the Saturn Vue 2 Mode or ChrysCo EV)?

BTW, doesn't the Tesla Roadster also do 86mph on electric mode...albeit for much longer times.

I fixed the link.
The link basically says that to get up to 86 MPH, you will need to use gas or gas/electric, but you can maintain the speed with just the electric...

worthless marketing feature, especially with vehicle weight and current battery construction.
at least that's what Larry had to say when I asked him...he would know.

I think it goes back to diminishing returns. In these first few generations of this technology, the tech will improve exponentially. Just look at the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid; it's much more fuel efficient than the outgoing generation Ford tech, but the batteries are 30% smaller.
However, the Cayenne will probably end up like the Escalade Hybrid; it'll be a vast improvement in terms of fuel economy, but everyone will still look at the Prius' 50 MPG EPA rating and scoff at it.
They could try a "performance hybrid" spin on it. After all, with electric motors, all the torque comes in right from the start. But then it would turn out like the Honda Accord Hybrid, which was the most powerful Accord ever (at that point in time), but still failed.

What about the rumours of a Panamera hybrid?
I think it would get really good fuel economy, but at the expense of interior volume. The trunk is already cramped.
