I was told today at my Porsche Dealer that you need a special tool to remove the steering wheel airbag???? so...............they want me to go monday morning to the shop to replace my steering wheel........I miss the old time....where you can EASYYY replace steering wheels!

The airbag is held in place by 2 latches.
There are 2 holes on the back of the steering wheel where you can insert a screwdriver.
I have an airbag here and will post a picture of the backside later today.

You need to disconnect the battery if you want to remove the airbag.

Here is the picture, the red arrow shows where you end up when inserting a screwdriver in one of the 2 holes on the backside of the steering wheel.
You can even see the marks that I made, trying to get this one out.
The blue arrow shows where the airbag is attached to the steering wheel.

As you can see, you have to lever the spring wire to the outside and this on the 2 sides to unlock the airbag.

Gert, would something like a coat hanger wire with a small "J" on one end work for this?

I highly doubt this as you need quite an amount of force to move that spring.
I used a flat screwdriver.
