Default Keyless Entry and Start Option Question

For those who have this option on the Cayenne I would like to hear from you how you feel the system works (sensitivity, speed of activation, responsiveness, etc.).

Also, does yours lock the doors automatically when it does not sense the remote any longer? The reason I asked is that mine did to my wife when she left the fob in her purse and left it in the car on the back seat. I don't think mine locks automatically and I don't believe I have anything set to do that. Does anyone else have intermittent issues with this option or know if my experience is normal?

Thanks,
Dave

I've got the option on my '06 turbo s and it is the single worst keyless system that I have ever encountered. Apparently the receiver is in the center console because the ignition system doesn't recognize a fob unless the fob is in my right pocket near the console. Nice.

Automatic door unlocking is ridiculous as it takes two or three pulls on the door handle for the car to recognize that a fob carrying person is tugging on the door.

I don't have it set up for auto door locking, if that is even possible, therefore I can not speak for that. Even to get a level of function WELL below that of a BMW costing one-third the price of the Porsche requires constant fob battery replacement. Fortunately the battery is available at the supermarket, a 2520? or a 3250? or something, and replacing the battery is easy.

The option was on the build sheet when I bought the thing off the lot and after living with it... I would NEVER pay for a Porsche keyless system again.

I would suggest trying frequent fob battery replacement as a first step.

I have not had any of the issues listed by Mr. Bahamas. I didn't care for it at first, but once I got used to it I found it's very convenient. The one issue I do have is that it tends to take several pulls to open the door when the handle is wet (like when it's pouring rain), probably the worst time for this to happen. I can avoid it by simply using the remote unlock button on the key.

Disclaimer - this is the one and only system of this type I have used.

I have it on my 05 truck and never had it before. I like it, though infrequently it will take a couple of pulls or taps on the the button to get it unlocked/locked. Have not replace the battery yet.

Roger that! The core key is always in the ignition so I'm not sure why the car locked and why she couldn't open it with the key locked in the car. It seems to me that the key would have been recognized while in the car which would have prevented a lock out.

Upon calling the dealer (and 800 PORSCHE) they had no suggestions other than a)have the car towed to the dealer or b)fedex another key from home to the location of the car. Neithers seems like a good option. I wonder what lock out assistance is for with Roadside Assistance.

I added the entry and drive to the '08 cayenne I ordered and I love it.
never have to reach for a key again.
I've tried different pockets and it always works, I've even been in the passenger seat with the key in my pocket and someone else starting and driving. haven't tried the backseat yet.
unlocks as soon as I place my hand on the door handle.
mine will not lock when the key is inside unless the vehicle is moving.
it does not lock automatically.

best upside is only having press any of the door handle buttons to lock the pepper as I walk away.
the only downside in my book is having to turn the ignition off twice, the second time holding for 2 seconds.

Hmmn, maybe the Cayene isn't a pig after all, perhaps it's more of a cat, since evidently, it doesn't really like water that much.

My system must be f'd up. I'd take it to the dealer to have it looked at if I did not live in FEAR of service departments that work on Volvos, too.

Hmmm.
