Smile Pleasantly surprised with '08 S mileage

Did a long road trip last Saturday for lunch (a 60th wedding anniversary). Have only had the Cayenne S a few months, with just barely 2K miles on it. Drove up past Santa Cruz do do lunch, about 360 miles. With a few stops, keeping under 90 and some slightly twisty mountain roads at the end I got just over 19 MPG for the whole trip (according to the OBC). We drove home after lunch with only a stop for gas at the beginning and got a hair over 20 MPG. Until I started driving above 75 the OBC said 20.5 which was amazing.

Is this typical or were the stars just aligned properly that day?

I guess it's possible given ideal highway driving conditions BUT if I want the "real" MPG, I do the math the old fashioned way- fill up tank, drive, fill up tank and calculate from there. I have never had a car with a MPG computer that wasn't optimistic- that includes our 2006 cayenne, 2000 540, and 3 caddy STS's before that.....maybe yours is no optimistic, but I have never been lucky

I do use them to gauge relative mileage- like when NJ puts the winter mix gas out which lowers mileage by about 15%, necessitating more fuel and fumes coming out- i.e. the opposite desired effect...

I had an 08 Cayenne as a loaner (brand new, 32 miles). Normal driving over 375 miles and I got 16 MPG.

Loved the steering, shifting; but was happy to have my 05 Turbo back.

The 08 has some big improvements, and I am sure if I drove the 09 CTT (S) I would want it, especially with ceramic brakes.

If I do that, (or buy a Panamera instead) I will turn the 05 into a tow vehicle. No worries, I will have a "seance" with Larry who will 'plain all to me, and remove the mysteries of the !.

The afterlife has it's rewards!!!!

I have a GTS with just over 1800 miles (over 1300 in the last two days). Mileage as been 19-21 MPG from the OBC using the old fashion way (making sure to top of the tan k as close as possible each time) I'm getting 19-20. Great vehicle for the road and I think the fuel economy will get slightly better as it gets totally broken in. I have added 1 Qrt of oil. Most of the trip has been in 90 degree plus weather. Seats are fantastic for my poor back, the brakes are great and the power WOW! I am also impressed at how nimble it is for a heavy vehicle, the suspension is outstanding. The truck also gets great looks on the road Yep it's a Porsche

that is wild mileage for the GTS; it must be a tip?

the manual i have now had for a week is consistently getting no better than 15 mpg and that is shifting at 3k rpm. any normal driving and it is 11 mpg or so. for the metric - 21 - 23L per 100km

I was talking to someone about mileage the other day, and he reminded me the EPA or whoever does the mileage estimate for the window sticker changed their test procedures in the last year or so. Compared to previous years, the new method reports lower MPG claims for the window sticker. Coupled with DFI for the '08 models, maybe that explains why I was able to beat the window sticker highway MPG estimate. The car is still too new to have a good feel for whether the OBC MPG reading is accurate or not. All the gas pumps around here shut off at $75 or $100 now which doesn't even give a full fill up and most of the time I'm too shocked at the price and too lazy to stick my credit card in again to complete the fill up. On my Boxster and 997, the OBC MPG numbers worked out to be pretty close to what I calculated at fill ups, so I'm assuming the Cayenne OBC is reasonably close as well.

I have been averaging 11mpg since I got my GTS. I drive with the sport button on. Then I decided to test it in regular mode, comfort setting and now I am getting 15mpg (at least for one tank of gas). All town driving. Has anyone else noticed if their milage improves when driving without the sport button on?

I'm getting 13.5 MPG after about 2,000 miles. I was using the Sport button all the time before but since I stopped, milage has definitely improved. I feel like a rock star when I fill up the tank.

I average 17 my in my '06 S. (15 city/19 hwy). With PSM off, it's much worse.

Our GTS now has over 2800 miles and I'm more impressed with it more every day. The last 600 were from Western PA down through West Virginia to Raleigh NC. Great roads to exercise the engine and suspension of the GTS. Fuel mileage still very good for a vehicle this heavy. Over this last 600 miles I was getting just at 20 MPG on the road which I think is excellent considering the up and down hills and the twisty roads . In town I am getting just over 15+ which is not bad also. The seats remain as good as any I have sat in on a trip and my lower back missing three discs is a critical judge. A very significant improvement over either my wife's Lexus RX 350 or my C6 corvette which we traded for the '08 GTS. It's a keeper. We still have almost 1400 miles back home to go next week.

I can hit 20.1 in my 06 S if the highway has a slight downhill direction. When I head to the airport it is slightly downhill for about 75 miles and I get around 20. Coming home is slightly uphill and I see about 17. These numbers are with cruise control locked at 72. If I start getting on the gas that number goes to the low teens...and FAST!

I don't think he means the same sport button. The switch from comfort mode to sport mode on PASM shouldn't change your mileage. The sport button on later model Cayennes changes the shift points for the transmission, etc. That would be more likely to change your mileage.
