George,

Thanks for the reply. I called them and they wanted $575 to install it. Have you heard anything about a place called "Trick Trucks" there in NOVA and MD. They quoted me $175 to install.

Have they ever done one before?

Beware, it is not an easy thing to install due to the configuration of the rear bumper. The guys who did mine were Porsche guys but they commented that it was semi-labor intensive.

There probably have not been too many of these done aftermarket.

Do any of the installation prices include the trailer lights control unit and wiring harness?

I ask the same question, " does installing the trailer hitch include the basic trailer wiring connections for lights"?. I pull an open Trailex from time to time with the SC aboard.

I dealing for a '08 GTS and part of the equation is the dealer instalation of a trailer hitch as this specific vehicle does not have on. Thanks

I put one on my 05 and it cost me less then $500
I ordered this hitch for less then $200 shipped

http://www.drawtite-hitches.com/prod..._Hitch,CT13220

I had it installed by my local Service King Collision Repair Center ... sorry they are only in Texas but I'm sure a major Auto body repair center in your area can do it for around the same price $150. They removed the bumper cut the slot, installed the hitch and replaced bumper in less then an hour.

I had the wiring done by my local U-haul dealer for $75 labor and another $25 for the parts.

I have used it for my bike rack, my wheeless trailer, and to pull a very large U-Haul tandem trailer with all my daughters goods from Austin to Dallas.

Nice DT. I cant make up my mind. Where did you get the wiring harness at Drawtite? The cost I have been getting dont include the wiring harness except for the dealers.

Did the hitch installer wire directly in to the wire harness? If the Cayenne is still under either factory or extended warranty, you might want to talk to the dealer about the implications of non-factory approved trailer wiring.

OK ..... first off ..... I tried to get the dealer to do it, but they sent me to a local Hitch place to get it done! According to the dealer this was their preferred place, I think they got a cut since their place was almost triple what the U-haul dealer charged. The U-haul dealer provided all the necessary wiring, etc. The U-haul dealer even guaranteed the work if any problem.

Since the install I have had the car in for warranty work twice and they never gave me any problem about the hitch setup. I recently traded the 6 for a turbo and this dealer even gave me credit for having an aftermarket hitch. They liked the setup and asked for details so they could forward other customers.

There is a Porsche factory "plug and play" set up for the wiring. That is the one that should be installed. Any offical Porsche dealer should advise installing the factory parts. I don't understand why they would get the work done outside.

I think you may have missed the intent of this thread. Yes you could do it right and pay porsche the big bucks, or you could still do it right and a save a bundle. I believe the author of this thread was looking to save some money.

It only saves money if it doesn't cause more problems and it works. Research on how the Cayenne wiring system operates and why there is a control unit for the trailer hitch lighting. Tapping into the rear wiring harness is not what Porsche AG recommends.

Would you happen to have any additional information on "how the Cayenne wiring system operates and why there is a control unit for the trailer hitch lighting"?

I would be interested in reading it.

TSB 6690, dated 06.04 relates to option 1 D6, which is dealer installed hitch and wiring.
It includes control unit 955 618 040 10, which recognizes that additonal lights are installed.

Option 1 D8 is factory trailer preperation.
