Tire Experience with Toyo and Yoko?
#17
So what's the general consensus here, Yoko Prada or Toyo proxes all seasons in 275 40 20? I am about to order some and wondered which is the best way to go to run them year round. It seems like most people who are using the Toyo are from a warmer climate than here in Chicago.

I just ordered a set of Toyo ST's 275/45/19 for my CT - have used them in the past on my Audi's (proxies) and think they make a great tire - not sure why the tirerack does not carry them though they are a great tire.

again...
i am running them on an FX45 instead of a CS, but both are AWD and the FX has more horsepower (although not the empty wt). i have 20k on the Spec Xs on the FX, so a couple of long term observations.
1) while the FX doesn't appear to be as hard on tires as the CS was, the yokos are getting very good wear even in relation to the goodyears that the FX came with (which lasted about 14k).
2) in water, these tires are phenomenal, nearly as good as the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.
3) haven't had them in any snow to speak of, but they have an aggressive tread, so i would think they would work fine. i have had them in some fairly deep mud without problems.
4)dry grip appears to be quite good, i have gotten some noise out of them, but only after the SLIP light has some on, indicating that i am near the limit of the tires. they were nowhere nearly as noisy as the General UHP that were perhaps the best tire i had on the CS. they also have not gotten any noisier as time has gone on, which appears to be a real factor in cayennes.
5) the porshe approved tires in this category all appear to be "Y" speed rated, whereas the SpecX are V (186 vs 149 MPH). the SpecX are 106 XL load rated which matches the Michelin 4x4 Diamaris and the other OEM listed tires on tire rack.
since they are under half the cost of the diamaris, i would give them a try. few tires on the cayenne make it over 15k anyway, so it is not like you will have to endure a mistake for long...

Have 20in Toyo proxes and find them to wear and ride nicely...though at approx 15K, they are getting noisey, which is my only complaint. The price is right, quality is good and I find them to be a good looking tire. Check out their high speed application on the Sportec CH, website.
