Default Time for brakes...

There is a local hotrod mechanic who is very competent and reliable...has been doing good work on my 928GTS. I was considering him doing my Cayenne brake job...can he handle the job or does it entail specific Porsche type tools /computer which he may not have?...also, any opinions on good performance brake pads? Thanks in advance.

No big deal to do the brakes...nothing out of the ordinary. I did mine trackside with basic tools. I went with the stock pads from Sunset. 44,000, towing, hills, etc and I have only had to change the fronts.

Yes, there are sensors but I did mine a bit early b/c it was more convenient to do it at the track and before the winter set in. I will do the rears this spring.

My mechanic needed one tool for the rears but had everything for the fronts. Did the fronts in the mid 50K range and just had rears done at 89K. I waited for sensor to go off on both and actually drove the CS 3K more miles after sensor on the rears after having him look at them.

Thank you all,...it's a big help. Do new sensors need be installed with new pads? Anyone running ceramic type brakes?

I had to replace the rotors on my '04 S at 40k brake change - make sure you give yours an inspection.

It was recommended to me to check out EBS brakes in the UK as well as Akebono here in the US. I'm leaning toward the EBS's.

Default EBC yellowstuff...redstuff...

Made a mistake there...am considering EBC redstuff or yellowstuff...any experience out there or with ceramic type pads in general? Thanks.

Time for front brakes for me too. I've decided to go with the no/low dust Hawk pads, but haven't picked out my rotors yet. Drilled? Slotted? Yes? No? Why? Price is important, but not the ultimate factor. There's quite a dif in the prices. Everyday use only; no track or off road gigs.

Didn't even think about the rotors...do they need be changed at the same time?, I thought debuffed etc...

Cross drilled (actually/likely cast) rotors require inspection for cracks that tend to form between holes, radially from the circumfrence of each hole.
Once a crack goes from one hole to another, the rotor should be replaced.

Slotted rotors, like solid rotors, do not have this limitation/inspection criterion.

FWIW, Rennlist member/Cayenne owner/Instructor 'tkerrmd' was one of the first to ride the pig regularly at a track and IIRC, he went with slotted rotors and had good luck with them. Perhaps a search for some of his older posts or sending him a PM would help.
