variocam problem on new cayenne S
#17
update...after trying the latest fix to the engine as directed by porsche headquarters (valve cover i believe), the dealer did some test drives and the check engine light came on again, so they have got porsche to agree to do the one thing that should fix the problem:
A NEW ENGINE!!!!
my car only had 2,500 miles on it, they are putting in the new engine today, guess i have to break the damn thing in again
im assuming the dealer can install a new engine and i will still get factory performance, no squeaks etc. anyone out there want to give me the "new engine" checklist so i can know what to expect? or am i doomed to be stuck with a bastardized car now?

I thought that fix was only used for first generation Boxsters...
I guess the "CEL" light in the Cayenne now stands for "Change Engine Light" instead of "Check Engine Light"

IIRC, you don't get a 'new' anything when it comes to engines and transmissions.
Never ask a question to which you already know the answer.
However, on the good side, since this is a Cayenne, no one in their right mind would ever care enough about one to ask for a Porsche CoA to confirm factory as built engine/transmission S/N's and options......so no one will ever care.

ltc, you would know better than me. i didnt know porsche would use remanufactured engines for warranty work but every other company out there does.
this is exactly the reason why i lease. if i bought this car i would be furious but because i lease its just an inconvenience rather than a lawsuit/sleepless nights/ulcer.

the final chapter (i hope)
picked up the cayenne last night with its new engine. drove it about an hour home and it seems to be running great. the service tech told me not to worry about breaking-in this new engine and just drive it like i normally would, in fact he didnt think any porsche engine needed much of a break-in due to the rigorous testing they do at the factory, i guess no one but the germans know for certain, that said ill probably go a little easy on it for a couple hundred miles
hopefully thats the last i see of the dreaded change engine light
