Would you trade in your Cayenne for a MB R-class?

Although they look the same, they are in no way related. Shocking but true.
Anything more than casual look will reveal that one is primarily rear wheel drive, the other front. One has a longitudinaly mounted engine with transaxle, the other not, they have a completly different wheelbase and track.
There is one German minivan based on the Chrysler platform and it's this:
..but the R and Pacifica are unrelated..

I just checked with one of my DC insiders and we are boht right and wrong.
The two platforms were designed by the same team one after the other. They are different platforms, but there is some commonality in the rear suspension only, which are both 5-links from the outgoing E-class. So, the R shares only limited hard points with the Chrysler "S", but more with the M/GL. I's a sort of hybrid of the two, but had to be narrower and more MB to fit down the line in Alabama...

my choice would be the honda odyssey, it has been in the top 10 of every study i have seen, and came in first in one, ahead of the MB S class. probably a good thing i don't have kids, my toddler would be in the center position of a CLASS III MRAP, strapped into a Martin-Baker tied into the airbag system. wrapped in bubblewrap...with a crash helmet...and transponder...
there is a reason i am not a father<G>.

I hear you...nothing is full proof. I hope, I never have to be in a side collision with my two kids=my life.
No tricks intended and I agree with you on center position for a child in any crash situation.
I used to own a Honda...few years ago when I was still in school...the most reliable car I've ever owned, at 120k it only had brakes, wipers & oil changed...no question a great car, Honda Odyssey, seems to be another great SUV/family car with one big problem like most Japanese cars it just doesn't seem like to be as solid as let's say Swedish or German cars...I MAY be wrong, I admit.

i have
a friend who was in a wreck with a drunk driver a few years back. it tore her taurus into two separate pieces, with her 4 yr old daughter in the rear half. my friend was strapped and trapped in the front half, tore herself up pretty good getting out and back to her daughter, who was fine.
she now drives the biggest SUV she can afford, and even with all the data on other vehicles, i don't blame her a single bit.

Not Tested or N/A
That having been said, I would be more than happy to write a check to purchase a Cayenne (assuming there is one available on the market) and testing the two vehicles, Gladiator style.
Of course, I will be piloting the Excursion.
