Default Is the "08 V6 worth considering?

I know that the consensus among many here is that the previous V6 is too sluggish given the weight of the vehicle. What about the new V6? Is it close to the previous "S" in terms of performance and is the new "S" worth the price premium??

04 S is better than an 08 V6, 08 S is better than both, test drive them

The people who've actually driven the v6 08 model have reported it is outstanding, a huge jump over the 06. Yes, it's a VW engine, but it's a 3.6L VR6 with direct fuel injection which pulls down 20+ mpg on the highway and makes 300hp. It's down on power from the "S" by 23.4%... only 13.2% weaker than the 06 "S"...

Will I "feel" that when I'm stuck in traffic slugging up and down the 405 near Sunset? Will I feel that when I traverse Sepulveda Blvd at 5pm?

Bottom line, a Chevy Cavalier SS is faster than a Cayenne S. For that matter, so is Dodge Neon SRT.

Save the $15k and lease a new Corvette if you want to go fast. Hopefully you can find somewhere to actually drive fast.

I had a clear bra put on my CS and while it was at the dealer, they loaned me an 08 v6. It was surprisingly quick, but not as spry as my CS. Especially on the freeway while passing someone, going from 60mph-80 it felt like the my CS would trounce it.

I drive about 75 miles a day to work and back, average mph is about 37 for a tank. 300 HP is just fine.

How much HP is "enough" is in the eyes of the beholder.... sort of a too-may-toe vs. toe-mah-toe argument... If you go the route of average MPH of 37 in stop and go traffic ... why not a YUGO?

The best thing they did was add the sport button as standard which gives you more linear throttle inputs.

Because I liked the Cayenne?
For a daily driver I liked the 500 miles from a tank of gas and $20K cheaper. If I wanted something fast I'd buy something that weighed about a ton less.

When I bought this summer I test drove a couple 06 Tit's and the 08 V6 back to back, the V8 was quicker but not by as much as you think.

I just got an 08 V6 as a loaner today and will probably have it for a few days. You definitely have to whip it hard to get it to go. It seems to have a little more power then the 05's. They aren't really that bad but when you are used to the v8 it's a downer. Also, it seems to hunt for gears much more then the S. The s has the torque to go without a downshift.

i was given a V6 loaner when a certain dallas porsche dealer was "fixing" my transmission. was a busy day and i had to go all over the metroplex. found that the V6 (this was an 06, but i suspect the 08s are the same, with more power) was a nice drive if you used the wheel based shift buttons. with the V8, it wasn't worth worrying about it, you had enough raw torque to get to where you wanted, but with the 6, a little bit of tranny stirring was required to get there.

i think the 08 V6 would be an acceptable ride, and easier on the gas to boot. of course, i opted for the big V8 in the FX, so perhaps i am not the best guy to listen to as the voice of reason in the horsepower wars.....

I tired both a 957 V 6 and a 955 S, I agreed that the Sport button in 957 V6 make hughe improvement from the 955 V6, but compare to the 955S, the 957 V6 is comparatively less responsive. Of course if budget and faclifted front/back are the concerns, I would say the 957 V6 is good enough. If you really consider the 957 S, how about going for the GTS?

Yes - the '08 V6 is better than the preivous models - but why? Go for a V8 - even used is you need too - unless mileage is an issue with you - then I would just hop onto a diesel powered vehicle.

You don't purchase a Cayenne to be "green" unless perhaps its the Hybrid...

Doesn't the "S" also have better overall handling, suspension etc.? Or have I been at the Kool-Aid too long?

That's what the Porsche website says, and why would they embellish?
