I know this is a Cayenne forum but you 911 owners out there, there is a very nice, red, 07 Targa 4S available at Boston P dealer, at a good price,
are Targas as popular as the coupe/cabriolet style?

I had a 993 Targa and loved it. But the market is concerned about the roof mechanicals.

In my opinion, at least for the non 996 & 997 cars, the order of resale value are: Coupe, Cab, Targa.

The 996 Targa's took a pretty big resale hit. Too soon the tell on the 997.

Good luck. If you plan to keep it and enjoy it, just get a good deal up front and don't look back!

The 997 anything (Turbo, Coupe, Cabriolet, Targa....everything except perhaps Cup cars and GT3/GT2) will depreciate as bad as the 996.....overproduction tends to do that.
If you're buying it to keep, depreciation is irrelevant; if it's a short term car, you may want to consider leasing.

Depreciation aside, the 997 Targa 4S is the first year of a widebody Targa, if that means anything.
Roof mechanicals are much improved over the early Targas, very few TSB's as of late.

IF...and that's a big IF.....I had to chose between coupe, cabrio and targa, I'd go with the targa. A very interesting driving experience, and the hatchback is a bit unique as well.

Just my 2 cents, you have change due.

what kind of driving experience difference? and the hatchback...?

Drive one. I think you'll find the Targa top to be similar in feel to a Panoramic roof; it's almost like driving a cab with the side windows rolled up and a windscreen behind you.

As for AWD in NE, I think Audi proved long ago the merits of AWD with respect to handling. There is a NE Rennlist member, T2, who has a 996TT (AWD) who drives it year round, well over 100K miles.

Thanks again LTC - yes I just got my 2003 996TT back from the dealer from service - it has 144,200+ miles on the ticker - very capable car in New England winters - just through some snows on it and you'll see also!! Sorry for hijacking a Cayenne forum thread - although the wifes 2004 C-TT has 122,000+ miles on the ticker now also!! T2

It's refreshing to see someone drive a Porsche and not just have a garage queen... my first one was my only car and I had to drive it year 'round while in school. Killed me to drive it in the snow and salt but I used a lot quarters at the car wash... and it's still around after 36 years... do have to admit I'm lucky to put 1000 miles a year on it now though.
We just got snow tires for my son's Cayman S- it's his only car and he's in school... see a pattern here????

if you meant to ask me...not yet , things were fine with just the Cayenne (the family Porsche) until I drove my friends brand new 997 4S coupe...since then I haven't slept well

...but seriously my biggest decision to make is the car for long term? also the option of cabrio vs my 2 little ones? I should say I gave up my 03 Boxster to a Cayenne because I could not enjoy it with my son & wife and ended up driving it alone most of the times, I understand that you can carry youth in the back seat of a 911...

3:28 am and I am still here...I should have not touched that car...

You've only just scratched the surface....drive a Turbo or a GT3 and THEN see what happens. Then we'll put you into a 993 C2S (pinnacle of aircooled 911's) and see what happens.....ask forum member 'Rome'
After that, I'll take you out in the Cup car......then your path down the slippery slope to the dark side will be complete. We'll have to take your belt and shoelaces away everytime you step into the Cayenne.

There IS NO HESITATION.

There is no "THE" car when it comes to Porsches...only CARS.

Life is so much better when you have the proper tool for the job.
Cayenne as a daily driver POS.
Proper Porsche (911) for enjoyment.
(I'll skip the part where you buy a track appliance and trailer....that comes later)

I've carried my two kids in my turbo's for over five years, first with car seats, now they are big enough to climb in and buckle up - we all love it!! Life is short - go with your gut - I will say though that when I first started looking at 911's I looked at the C4S and the Turbo and ultimately chose the Turbo because I knew I would want the turbo rush of power after 6 months in the C4S so I just dove in went for what I really wanted - it'll put a smile on your face every day of the week....at least twice!!! Interesting choice, not really sure if a 4S is worthy of a (perhaps a GT2 or GT3RS might....but I digress)
