That thread indicates why I am now driving a Cayenne daily. Even though the 928 is timeless, there's TOO much potential money to put into making it "stay" timeless and miss all the the good features in a modern vehicle.
I appreciate the effort but I couldn't do that to my 928 (which is sold as of this writing).

That and the constant paranoia of the next parts bill.
I got tired of hearing some odd noise and thinking: "Is this a $100 noise, $500 noise or $1500 noise".

It might not be modern looking by some standards but it was a good looking and if you ask me still a good looking car. The 32v V8 was quite strong at 5.4 liters and produced 350 hp and 370 pound feet of torque making it as fast as a Cayenne TT. One of the best GT cars I have ever driven and that goes for some newer F,M & AM cars. Although the 5 speeds are very rare with less than 100 built they are great value and ironically sold for as much as MY 04TT new and is worth as much if not more than my 04 TT today. Regrading repairs a properly cared for 928 is no more costly to maintain than any other Porsche. In fact a GTS with good service history will cost a lot less to maintain than an 05-06 CTT once out of warranty .
I personally like the stock look myself but he did a tremendous job none the less.

I sold my 928 because I have a family and wanted a Porsche for my family to ride in. 928's are cool. I spent several years in one as did one of my kids. But I am a bigger guy and there was no way to fit a kid behind my seat. I truly feel fortunate to have been able to afford a Cayenne. The degree of maintenance needed and wacky electronics in the 87 928 S4 aren't so cool. Particularly, now that I can do minimal wrenching and enjoy a fun ride.
I'll have another 928 some day that someone has spent a lifetime maintaining and probably an equal amount of money but I am in no hurry because the market is eroding underneath them and even the best examples won't be worth the maintenance going into them.
Enjoy your ride(s)

I think all the things you said and particularly the above quote jive 100% with my comment that the 928 is timeless. Unfortunately, the cars, regardless of condition (well except for being put in a vacuum tube/sterile environment), are not likely to hold any value.

I only have one son and he is fine behind my wife although it would be a bit cramped with another behind me. However, there is a lot more room than in a 911.
All I can say was I was in my sisters new Land Rover the other day and for almost as much as a new 06 CT I have no idea what she was thinking. Fancy yes but not very fun to be in.
