Default Problem: Multi-purpose display is VERY dim.

Just developed a problem yesterday: The Center Console Multi-purpose display is REALLY dim. Can't see it in the daylight and very dim at night. I have tried a couple of different things to resolve to include checking the fuse, resetting to factory settings and adjusting and readjusting the brightness. No luck. Anybody encounter this or have any ideas before I contact my dealer on Monday???

As the Jetson's dog Astro used to say, "Ruh-Row!"

First time I've ever seen/heard of this issue.. and as Martha Stewart's alterego would say, "It's NOT a good thing."

Hope you bought an extended warranty................... this could be expensive.

Yeah I do have an extended warranty that I got from the dealer when I got the car. Could be a bit of a hassle as they have to communicate with the warranty company and barter on price, etc. I will post what happens.

There are policies out there. Search for Mercury, they seem the most reliable.

Warrantech is the company. I will not recommend unless I have a good experience.

Dealer trip required.
Your MFD has joined Larry in the afterlife.
Cluster module replacement likely, at least from up here in the cheap seats.

Larry you are correct. Instrument cluster to be replaced. My deductible is $100. I am not sure how much that would have cost me if I had gone naked to justify the cost of the extended warranty.... but then again I am only at 61k with plenty more driving ahead.

Default Repair Done!

Finally....The repair is complete. I originally had this happen two months ago. It took about two weeks to get into dealer for diagnosis. Three weeks for part to come in. Turns out they ordered the Canadian version......km/hr. They installed the wrong part two weeks later and realized their mistake after installation. Reordered correct part (another three weeks) and finally installed upon arrival. During the two months I got a warning signal. The light by this time was not dim, simply non-existent. Turns out it was the rear brake warning light. So I had them do the brake job and the instrument cluster at the same time. The brake pads, rotors, sensors, etc. not covered of course under the extended warranty.
Cost of the instrument cluster: $1714.83. With labor and tax the job would have cost me about $2k. The extended warranty was $4628. I need several more repairs like this to break even. Hopefully that will not happen.

Quick Reply: Problem: Multi-purpose display is VERY dim.
