Can someone post a procedure for replacing coils, I have a feeling this might prove usefull to a lot of people. Oh a procedure that does not break the strut.

1. Drive truck to dealer.
2. Threaten law suit if not replaced under warranty.

Why would you ever have to replace the coils? There's nothing wrong with them, remember?

On a SLIGHTLY more serious note, have you checked Loren's site?

It's at times like this that we miss 'Wingless'.....Forum Keeper of the Cayenne Factory Manuals and Wiring Diagrams.
Wonder what ever happened to him?

...they are just cracked and PASS electric current in a WRONG area...

...here is again old discussion thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...3&page=1&pp=15

...and check/replace procedure in pics:

http://gallery.rennlist.com/cayenneg...oil-Inspection

...parts used for CayTT 04:

8 * 999-170-218-90 Spark Plugs
8 * 948-602-104-01 Pencil Coil

...PIWIS shows NO error code for defective coils/plugs

...parts cost:
plugs about 50-100$ for 8
coils about 100-150$ for 8

...dealer labor asking about $650, if out of warranty...

Thanks to Wingless, Mudman2 and all contributed members from this board.

Brilliant, thanks ozr for the compilation, I had forgotten those excellent pix by Wingless. Its the passenger side Torque suspension member that gets broken by the dealers a lot of the time when they change the coils. (check your bills, those who have had it done under warranty)

Anyone got anything to add ?

I will place across with Loren when done.

Yes.
There is NOTHING wrong with the coils.

The logic is used is identical to the "There is NOTHING wrong with "!" Check Trailer Lights"......and "There is NO hesitation in a Cayenne and it has nothing to do with the ECU/TCU"......and "Your rear hatch didn't open all by itself while you were driving"......and "No, that is NOT a vibration you feel in the steering wheel when driving".

Cayenne owners just often complain about issues that don't exist.....just "shut up and drive".

P.S.
Does anyone know what actually happened to Wingless (an original member of the alpha/beta survivor 'test group')?

Did he cut off one of his limbs with a sharp edge of paper from the Workshop manuals and is no longer chained to his Cayenne?

You know when the engine start lurching when having bad coils, could that put more stress on the drive shaft?
Just wondering because it seems really poor quality to have to be replacing a drive shaft @ 48k and the car is lady driven and not even pushed hard.

IIRC, MadFox had his cardan shaft replaced very shortly after going naked.
IIRC2, it was covered under warranty as a good will gesture.

This is of course long after 'The Great Cardan Shaft' TSB/Recall, back in the dark days of the alpha/beta units.

Actually, the cardan shaft tried to "shaft" me at 69,000 miles. PAG was willing to go 50%, the dealer's GM (wants me to buy that TT Cab. that you keep talking about!!) ate the other 50% because I had been so "loyal" through the monthly "bend over" examinations and had bought tires and done all maintenance through them (did the tires through them because of the "glitch" shimmy/vibration through 2 sets of tires). I didn't want the shimmy being blamed on non-N spec. tires or improper alignment/balance by the 3rd party shops. (just a reminder alpha/betas need RF<15). FWIW, had nearly bald fronts at 11K on the Tit.S (Diamaris, which was really horrible compared to 25K+ on the beta with Diamaris) and never had shimmy/vibration so I think the linkage was indeed onlhy an alpha/beta issue and non-round tires exacerbated the vibrations thru the steering column to the driver.

Wow.. that was way too much thinking.... pass the Rex please.

I would say possibly but not likely.. the cardan shaft issues are "defective" from manf. process and it just takes a long time (in general) for it to show up. Bad coils definitely impact the plugs however.
