"Vell, vell, vell.... you found zee terminal, did you???"
Everest is cupcakes compared to Mt. PITA Cayenne. I was prying, pulling, tugging, yanking (no, not Mr. Jimmie) on the harness and was about to throw in the towel when I decided to pull the left dash fuse box cover off to take a look-see.
After a little fishing around... low and behold in all its glory... there was the end of the terminal barely visible. You can see it at the end of my looooooooooong flathead screw driver just behind the red speaker wire.
I freed up some slack on the base wiring bundle and carefully pushed the speaker wire out of the way. Then I used a screw driver to push the terminal laterally enough to slip it out. It was very tightly wedged between a metal dash support beam and some other very hard plastic structure.
There she is in all her glory... I think I'll tackle LED lights next !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to Larry for the moral support from The Otherworld and thanks to Dell for slamming a few beers for me.

I need to add trailer wiring to my '05 (factory hitch) so I'm keen to see the rest of the DIY pictures. I've seen the VW and Porsche part numbers, but I've not found an example pic of before/after. (Of course, this whole process is completed on a Chevy Tahoe using the factory wiring in the space of about, oh, one minute ...)

RE the Heineken, it's good to know that someone was having a good time while all of this was going on...

For MY06, Porsche apparently moved the brake lamp switch behind the firewall. I couldn't find the switch in my CS.
I have the factory installed tow package... there's a 7 pin connector at the hitch pre-wired.

quick bump. great thread. very handy.
ps. I have to keep asking why a Ford F250 can have an integrated brake controller (probably costs $20 to put it in the car) and the Cayenne can't even be set up plug-n-play. Aargh!
pps. Looking forward to towing a snowmobile in a blizzard tomorrow! : )

Congrats on finding the harness - wow - that's enough work in itself!

Don't forget it's also integrated into the ABS system as well.
