Default Me and MY CTT almost met our maker on Sunday!

I have included a link to better describe the situation and illustrate the insane magnitude of this altercation!

I am driving up the FDR (New Yorkers, this is really for you). I am in the CTT, humming along and I decide to take the Brooklyn Bridge out to Long Island, to pick up wife. Yes, I took the long way on purpose!

Now, as you will see, I took the access ramp on the right hand side, the ONE WAY access ramp on the right. Once I saw there were no cops hiding (like they do), I gave it a little, up the ramp.

This is a fun little ramp and I used to love it in the 996, as it is "typically" and supposed to be ONE WAY. Anyway, the turn in the ramp is also where the ramp crests, so you cannot see that far in front, which is typically not a PROBLEM, with it is one way.

So, as I am about to hit the apex of the turn , I encounter a Ford Taurus, going the other direct. The woman driving the car is screaming so much, all I can see is a giant hole in her head. I would note that its raining out, so sudden evasive actions could cause one to end up 2-3-4 stories lower, in a matter of seconds, as I am guessing that the rusted guard rail is no match for the 5k pounds of the CTT.

In a moment flash, it all became very clear, you are essentially playing chicken, whether you want to or not. Does the crack ***** (aptly names in the chart), go right or left. Well, she went right and I want right and surprisingly, there was not even contact... given it was designed for ONE car going ONE WAY.

So there you have it, as close as you want to come! Given the combined impact would have been 60 mph, I would guess that the Taurus owner is even happier than I am, I didn't hit her, head on. I also wonder had I been in another car, would I have been able to do all that I did, to avoid the crazy, as she did nothing, just kept on going,,, screaming.... like a alpha/beta Cayenne owner!

Scary stuff! Now go buy a lottery ticket, and if you win, then split it with your rennlisters.

I don't miss driving in NYC. No wonder Danny Sullivan chose it as his training ground prior to choosing race car driving as a profession. Maybe you're ready for the Indy 500?

A friend of mine (a stalking Rennlist member) was convinced that New York cab drivers would make excellent NASCAR drivers. In the days of reality TV, seems like it might just happen.

Down here in New Mexico we have the people that drink a case of beer and go the wrong way on the Interstate. Seems to happen a lot with horrendous accidents. There was a guy in ABQ that did a little too much happy powder and took his semi out and started ramming houses in a high end subdivision, he thought that was great fun.

I'd also add bus drivers & rickshaws (how I hate them) :-D

No idea. The do not enter signs are only invisible to the blind and people on crack... I will assume this is the case outside the "city". But up here, when it rains, that is the universal ticket to drive like you have never driven before or like your on crack.
