I can't wait for the 3.0 TDI to be available in the Touareg. I love my V10, but will be ready for another by the time it makes it to our market. Supposed to be V8 like performance with close to 30MPG HWY. I will keep the V10 because it is such a low production car, until 10K before the 100K warranty goes away. I may even keep it past 100K if it continues to be reliable. Keep extra fuel filters on hand at all times.
IIRC, VWoA plans for 08 are for a 45 state compliant TDI. I'm pretty sure the 5 'Green' states are the ones who have been dropped

According to audiworld, audi is working with MB and using Bluetec technology to make its diesels 50 state compliant. They should work great with the new low sulfur fuel.

IIRC, it was the lack of low sulfur fuel that doomed the initial V10 TDI here in the states. I do recall reading a review by someone who had the opportunity to drive a 3.0 TDI T-reg and it did seem like the best of both worlds. V8 performance, better towing torque and better fuel economy.

With 46% of all new cars being diesel in Europe for the last few years it still boggles my mind that we don't have more here. Damn EPA/CARB....

and 40 more for the V6... 290 is respectable along with a BIG bump in torque. 8.1 0-60mph, 1.0 sec faster than current V6.
