Default Anyone with the Tequipment large ski box ?

Hi,

About to take delivery of a new Turbo S as the familly wagon. Has anyone installed the Porsche Large ski box on the roof ? Any pros and cons over other makes ? I'd like to be sure that it can remove without leaving marks for the summer months.

Cheers from the Great White North.

I just bought a Cayenne. If you use the cross rails, the Porsche box is the easy way to go. The rails are so wide that my Thule could not clamp around it and the attachment of the Thule box to the OEM cross rails are a PITA.

However, the Porsche box was smaller (and more expensive) than I wanted, so I went with the roof rack. Attaching Thule cross rails then is a snap and allows you to put any make of box on.

I went with the Porsche box as it is overall lower without he Thule or Yakima attachments. I can drive into my garage with the box on if I put the truck in loading level.

FYI you can easily use the Thule box - you just need slightly longer bolts. It's a 3-dollar solution.

True, you can easily wing nut it in. In my case, I'm constantly taking the box on and off- our ski place garage won't allow the box in. The quick release clamps take seconds and when it is 10 degrees outside, it makes a difference!

Yes that is one thing about the Thule box I don't like - all the jockeying around that you have to do. Especially with no running boards on the Cayenne, it's a pain.

I think it might be a tight fit. The Thule Evolution is about the same dimensions, except the height- 3 inches taller. The cubic feet is 18 for the Thule and 16 for the Porsche.

The second snowboard would be a tight fit. I would order it from your dealer, bring my skis/boards there when it arrives and if it doesn't fit, look for another box.

This is the box I went with as it is lower than the smaller box. It is a pain to take on and off as the bolts attach from the center gap in the cross bars on the roof rack. The box and bolts must be perfectly aligned at all four holes in the box before you can drop the box down and tighten the box from the inside. It is a clean look with the box resting on the cross bars. I would think it would handle the snowboards and skis easily.
