Default Towing a 747

VAG marketing is on top of its game again.
First the Touareg in Paris-Dakar, now a Touareg V10 TDI tows a 747:

And it's coming back (if not already here) to the US.....fantastic engine BTW, in case you've never seen/driven one.

I'd love that engine in a Cayenne, but we all know what Dr W said in his infinite wisdom... hell I'd like that engine in a Q7 but I think the diesel they're putting in that is a smaller V6

Almost bought one the first time around when I got the CS, but I was having trouble spending as much on a VW as on a Porsche and I already drove examples of both...

I just wonder though how the transmission will hold up if you actually use the V10 TDI to tow stuff- can't imagine that tranny is as stout as the Allison unit my old GMC 2500 tow vehicle had.

(BTW, I didn't notice if the running lights were working on the plane )

Not sure if the TDI transmission is any different than the gas engine transmission in the Touareg....I'd have to check into that.
If the Touareg TDI had been available in MA when I allegedly purchased/owned a Cayenne, I definitely would have gotten one. Drove one in Europe.....fantastic engine.

Well, if the 747 has less than 18, then it might work

Great engine, but still same electronics package am I correct?

I'll wait for Audi to stuff that Diesel in there - then let's see what happens

How many light bulbs on the 747 did they unscrew?

As far as how many lights did they unscrew, I should know that one... two lights on each side and two in the back...

Isn't Audi planning to stuff a new V12 TDI in the Q7? Now THAT'S an engine!

I've only heard of the V10 TDI and the W12 (gas).

Bigger question.. does the 747 weigh more than the trash receptacle Porsche approved trailer? ..... note that Tit.S is pulling that heavy mother up a steeper grade than the wimpy Tourag on a level runway.

We're all impressed Mad... especially since the clear corners are now installed...

Couldn't help re-using the picture since a lousy Tourag is trying to act like pulling a light-weight puny 747 is a "big deal".. come on.. imagine how heavy that "toxic waste" container is with a week's worth of refuse... plus it's pulling up a viciously steep incline!

Just pulling my leg, eh? We're talking about 738 lb-ft of torque and 500 hp. Think it'll trigger a '!' in sympathy for it's sibling?
