Default Airbag Fault

Okay, Larry.... a "glitch" in the new Tit.S. Been living with it for a week and it hasn't cleared.. headed to dealer now, 45 minutes of sitting while they PIWIS I'd guess... I had no battery, electrical or other issues.. fault just came on when I started her up.. will it just reset or is this a real problem? Any of you had a "real" airbag problem? And with the fault indicator on permanently like a ! during towing... if I were to have an accident would the computer prevent it from deploying (trivia question for the Cayenne elite knowledge base)?

really havent seen 2 many 06s with airbag issues........ most likey something related to aws (airbag weight sensing) for the pass side airbag, probaly not a real issues most likely a miscalibration.
I havent crashed a cayenne with the light on to see if they would still deploy but I have to belive that in an accident if it feels it needs to deply it will deploy the air bag unless theres a fault that could hinder operation or saftey or cause a misdeploy

Hm, let me resend it right now.

MF, sorry to hear that your Tit.S are deflating. Maybe switch from silicone to saline and next time try going through the navel as opposed to the armpit? :-D

My lumbar support in driver's seat was fixed, lasted a week and failed again.

Madfox,
If I am not mistaken, the airbags are currently under a defect investigation by the NHTSA:

More info here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...&model=CAYENNE S&model_yr=2003

Maybe your vehicle slipped through...????

Apparently the NHTSA isn't convinced of this because they opened the investigation in 3/2006. Hopefully, it is only a issue that was contained within the 03-04 model year.

Hmmm, they reset and it hasn't appeared again in about 5 cycles of off/on with driving today. They think it will come back and it may be the pax control unit as they are like 99firehawk and haven't seen this since alpha/beta models (although never had it in mine). Fortunately it is the pax side as I have to drive 150 miles to ATL airport tomorrow and if I got hit and it didn't deploy I'd been pissed or dead! Svc. rep said the fault would keep it from deploying because it doesn't know what the problem is.. i.e. it is a generalized alert.

And enigmanwmn... I thought it was "the older the Tit.S model gets --- the bigger they get" .... age related deflation is only achieved with technical service related operations!!

No paperwork.. they just reset it. Svc. Rep. said it was the pax airbag control unit. A "interrupt" maybe was in the log. Reset through PIWIS. Only indication was the airbag alert on the menu in the dash and then the airbag yellow light stayed on whenever the ignition was on. Start/Stopped probably another couple of times and still no fault. Any wisdom?

Guess time will tell.. it took about a month for it to show up.. so at least it is documented if it happens again in a few weeks. Thanks.

Had this repeatedly on my 04 ctt. they redid the wiring in the drivers seat and it has been fine since (knock on wood).
