I was going to see a Cayenne S 04 tomorrow with 36k kms on the clock but after reading here I am not so sure.

Anyone really regret it?

It is simply the best all-around vehicle on the planet...early models had some kinks to iron out. You might want to consider a later model.

Mine's an '06 and it has pretty much been flawless.

Thanks Rome- BTW we have an office there and all the cars I saw had dings in them. You must have nerves of steel parking in town.

I don't actually live in Rome...just like to visit....I live in Boston.

The later '05's and '06's seem to be pretty bullet-proof. I'd stay away from the '03 and '04 models.

Heh, I saw all you guys coming in the airport. I was on the way out to the Uk that day. I thought it was some latvian tem by the weird name of the sponsor on the football shirts.

Echo the same comments above. Stay away from 03 and 04 and you will be fine. I have an 05 that kicks @ss. The 05/06 models are pretty damn good!

I'd say I'm more impressed than I thought with the Cayenne. I traded my FX45 for a new Cayenne Turbo S and am surprised with how pleased I am with it. The only thing I miss from the FX is the rear view camera and better sunglass holder. My CTTS is a real super vehicle given everything it does well. No problems in the first 5k miles aside from oil consumption (2qts in 5k). Seems they've solved any of the initial bugs I heard about. Part of the appeal for me is that it simply defies what I thought was possible for such a large and heavy vehicle. It's handling is not bad either. It makes a good partner for my GT3.Again, I'm surprised to be saying this.

but speaking from the 50k mile end of the pool with an 05, i cannot say i share the wealth of good feelings here toward the later model years. i have enough problems for a week or two stay in the shop, except the shops cannot seem to fix them (i have been to more than one).

i love driving it, but i think it may be to complex for the dealer service network to maintain.

When you inspect the vehicle, always check out the Build Date in the driver's door jamb. Many '05's were built in '04, and '06's built in '05 and so on. Obviously the later the better. When I got my '06, I made sure it had an '06 build date.

To that point .....I have a LATE build 2004 Turbo that I bought in November 2004 and have not have any problems that the 2003 models had. Even if ANYTHING crept up they were 100% taken care of by the dealer (for example the cowboy buckles installed in the rear)....I really can't complain !! Every single time I drive this thing it puts a smile on my face. Can you put a price on that? Go out there and get that 2004 and love it !! Just make sure you have a warranty

I have a late-year 2004 and love this vehicle--sometimes even more than my 997S cab, if you can believe that.

Yes, the 2003 and 2004 ("alpha" and "beta" year models) had some issues, but most are relatively minor and have been long ago taken care of through various workshop campaigns, technical service bulletins, etc. Mainly, there were some electrical gremlins (back glass hatch wouldn't close properly, key fob wouldn't open door until you were right up on the door, dipped headlight beam, had to replace my battery, etc.). These were annoying little problems, but taken care of and long forgotten early on in my ownership experience.

This car is a complicated vehicle with a hell of a lot of electrical complexities. This is not a dull and predictable Lexus. When things go wrong, they can be expensive to repair. Hell, even my 997S had a nav system that did not work and could not be fixed by my dealer ship for 2 months. I don't know if I would own this car or any other p-car out of warranty. But I sure as hell love driving them and the engine and driving experience are what make this car, and any other p-car, a pleasure.

My Cayenne S is a blast to drive--especially during the winter!

I have an 04S and have had relatively no problems. I bought it with 15K on the clock and found that the original owner had taken care of all the TSB's and other junk that you may have read about. So far so good with no complaints. I love driving the damn thing....
