Default Mfg Date of 2005's

I'm looking at a used CS on Ebay, they say it is a 2005 model. The mfg date is 05/04 on the sticker. Does this mean April of 05, or May of 04? If it's May of 04 isn't that a bit early in the year to be making 05's?

It's Ebay auction #280007663890

Yes I think it is. I think I have one of the first '05s when I picked mine up in August of 2004. The sorry thing for me selling mine over here in Europe is they go by the build date, not the model year. So despite mine being a model year 2005, I have to list it as 2004.

That is such BS for them to make you list it that way. Heck, I would say greater than 50% of all cars in a model year are manufactured in the preceding calendar year! What a bum deal.

And of course here in the states you have people that list cars at .5 years as well. Saw a commercial earlier today advertising a 2006.5 car, WTF is that. Is it a 2006 or a 2007??? Do you think the DMV knows what the heck a .5 year is?

Take the VIN and run it thru Scouser's VIN decoder.
You should get the info regarding next year built previous year VIN stuff, etc.

May of '04 sounds too early to be an '05 model year vehicle. I have an '06 model year which was mfg in 07/06. I was told that July is the model year changeover for Cayennes...don't know if it's true ...just what I was "told". ltc's suggestion to run the VIN will provide a definitive answer...

My original thought/suggestion would be to cut the Cayenne in half and count the rings.....but I thought most forum members would roll their eyes back and say 'there he goes again'......so I didn't.......up until now......

Thanks for the help, I'm still looking for an '05 with the right equipment and color. How come most of the used ones are in Texas or Florida?

SamG-

Seriously, I don't know what colors and what options you're looking for, but I'm selling mine. PM me if you're interested.

easier to "wash" the title to be clean and not salvage on a flood damaged car. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
