Default Service at 10K

At about 8040 miles I get the 2000 miles to service warning.

For one thing, I thought first service was at 20k and what will they do at 10k? Cost? Actually I'm happy about it... I have other things for them to look at. If they keep it overnight I wonder if I get a loana-boxer or something?

Hey Charlie....you are not alone. I got my first warning a few weeks ago on my V6 at ~6000 miles. I made an appt and am taking it in next week for service--basically just an oil change. Like you, I am also having a few minor warranty issues taken care of at the same time--loose trim piece, "spontaneous" AC fan speed up. I don't know about your dealer, but here in AZ if you request a loaner when you make the service appt, they will arrange for you to drop off your car and drive the loaner for the day (or however long it takes them to do the service).

just had my 20 k service (no 10K). Do you have the CS of the base C-- I wonder if they get serviced at different intervals?

dealer gave me a boxster overnight (nominal $20/day charge).

Quite possibly different intervals between base and CS....gotta keep the V6 rpms up to motivate 5000lbs which necessitates more frequent oil changes!

Do I understand you correctly that the dealer CHARGED you for a loaner car?

Correct-- Their policy is $20 a day for P-car..choice of cayman, boxster or cayenne...

No charge for regular rent a car.

Hey Charlie--Ask 'em what you get for $430... I just had my 10k service done yesterday (at 7k miles...I don't know if it was Mark's driving or the desert climate that tricked the computer into recommending an "early" service )

Anyway, I was quoted just over $200.... Upon inquiring as to exactly what they will do for that price, I was told the following:
1. oil and oil filter change
2. fluid level checks
3. tire pressure checks (rotation upon request, but sure they would have charged more for that!)
4. computer diagnostic check

Their labor rate is ~$120/hour so my guess is #1 takes about 30 minutes and you pay for another 30-45 minutes of "checks" plus parts for the oil change. They gave me an A3 2.0T as a loaner...nice little car, but IMHO not worth the $31K sticker...I'll be keeping my BMWs...

For $430 for the same service, that would make your dealer's labor rate well over $200/hour I recommend asking them to document what they plan to do for that price and just delete those things you don't need to keep the vehicle in warranty...GL!

guys-- i dont get it. no 10K service on the Cayenne S. Why are dealers quoting it, or doing it for you.

Cayenne (V6) has 10K service intervals. Cayenne S and CTT are 20K intervals. That still doesn't prevent an S or CTT owner from requesting a 10K oil change, computer check and tire rotation.

Correct...as previously stated, us V6'ers need to spend more time above 3000rpm to keep the 5000lb sled motivated. I'd guess if you S'ers were not running around with all your lovely torque at 2000rpms and spent the better part of the day in the upper range of the tach, you'd be doing 10k services, too...
