Ball Carrier Questions
My Cayenne came with the Tow Hitch option, to complete this I've ordered the Tequipment Ball Carrier but unfortunately, UPS "mislaid" the item with serious delay in delivery ..... and now I'm slammed, when it arrives next week I pretty much need to use it right away - hence want to be prepp'd.
Two questions:
1. anyone know whether the Ball Carrier is supplied with a ball - and if so what size? 2 inch?
2. if answer to 1. is "no", what shank size does the ball carrier take?
Thanks in Advance!

Thanks for the quick (lightning?) response!
Side note: its a bit weird - I used to post on the 993 forum (as "Chris in Detroit") on topics such as suspension, track tires and pads - now I find myself on the Cayene fourm, posting about iPod installs and hitchs ...... Still the same fantastic place though. Big thanks to everyone who makes this forum what it is.

The Porsche carrier is also solid and somewhat short compared to ones you buy at a trailer shop- a word of warning, if you have to change the ball, it is on there VERY tight. I needed a slightly bigger ball for my trailer and it was a b*tch to get it off- depending on what you tow, some of us here would like to hear about any lighting issues...

Towing a Trailex 8045SB (no LED lights) and I'm in the Midwest (no really hilly bits) so surge brakes are fine. Luckily a 2" ball is the right size.
Hope to avoid any ! lights ........... did I just tempt fate?

So here I am, enjoying my 'retirement' , having been released from the 'vacation villa', off ALL of my meds, and 'time away from the "dearly departed Cayenne" '.....and what do I sense being discussed:
"!" and "Lighting Issues"
There are NO lighting issues with Cayennes
Anything to the contrary is merely internet chat and urban legend.

Lewis, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. I heard that somewhere, I think. The insight is always welcome.
The Porsche ball carrier is very nice and is required to use the rated tow capacity. Aftermarket ball carriers are acceptable if a lesser capacity is acceptable.

Apparently, I have been grandfathered back into the forum.....something about 'Lifetime Survival/Achievement Award'

My trailer company supplied me with 2 (one for the Excursion and one for the "other car we dont' talk about anymore") 12K rated ball carriers, solid, 2 5/16" ball, SAE J684. Used it many times in the "car we don't talk about anymore", towing the 968Cab (she's a bit 'heavy') + enclosed aluminum car hauler....~6K lbs....no problems........well, no MECHANICAL problems.
I bought an OEM ball carrier initially, ended up selling it new to a rennlist member. There was nothing special about it, apart from being solid and being a bit shorter.

So, some have higher ratings and some have lower. Each component in the system must be appropriate.
One nice benefit of towing with the Cayenne, which offsets all the frequently discussed non-documented features, is the vehicle alarm monitoring of the electrical trailer connection, to sound the alarm ifin the trailer is unplugged. So there!

Since I don't own a Cayenne, I'll have to take your word for it

Hold both your hand(s) on the bottom of the steering wheel, about 6:00 position or so, and move your hand(s) in the direction you want the rear of the trailer to go.
Let us know if you find any proper mirror extentions (so far **** universals are about it)...although with an open car hauler you might be OK.
