Lots of Coils Information -Slight Roughness at low speeds ?
#136
Hi guys, just thought I'd update everyone with my recent experience with the stealership and coil packs.
Noticed a rough idle a couple weeks ago, it's my girlfriends car, and then last week the skipping and misfiring. Checked it with my Durametric and got P0300 random misfires and P0304 misfire cylinder 4. At first I though I would have to go this on my own but thanks to this forum and this thread I decided to give the dealer a call. Of course at first they asked how many miles and what year and then when i said a 2005 with 91k they immediately said "no, no there's no warranty on that." But then I mentioned the TSB and they got defensive, "where did you get that?" Told them I had a friend who worked at a dealership in another state and then they said they'd call me back...sure enough they called back and said they'd offer a "one time good will exception."
So I bring the car in and they said they needed to see the code, which I had cleared already with my Durametric, so they would have test drive it to get the code to show...and then only if it was the coils would it be covered. I asked them to change the spark plugs while in there. I said what how much will it cost to change the plugs, thinking it couldn't be that much because they were already in there, they confirmed only about an hour, maybe less, of labor + price of plugs...okay I figured, shouldn't be too much but I still asked for a quote. They called me back to say $270 to change the plugs!!! I asked for the breakdown, half hour for labor and something like $25/plug!!! I said listen, not trying to be an *** but I can buy the exact same Bosch plug online for around $6/plug, I don't expect you to sell it for that, but almost 5 times more, are you kidding me?!?! I would have expected $10-$12/$13/plug as reasonable for the stealership, but $25...ah no way. So I told them to skip it and I'd do it myself. It sucks because they were right there but as a matter of principle I couldn't bring myself to pay that, I don't mind paying for something but getting blatantly screwed is another thing. So I bought the plugs online with shipping for $60, Bosch FGR6KQE for $6.15/each + $12.70 for shipping.
They should be here tomorrow and then I'll throw them in. Should be fairly easy considering I've already replaced the coolant pipes on this P!g!
Hope this helps some others with getting the coils covered under warranty

Jason/all,
AM i correct in reading that they will replace the old coils even without a code for them? My 06 CTTS has a slightly rough idle and definitely has lost some mpg over the last 5k miles. i am just over 95k on the pig so this is getting short and I have about 2k more planned in the next 2 weeks.

Where is this located?! I am having the same issue when i come to a stop it vibrates

I am also having the vibration when I stop. I find if I put it in neutral as I hit 15mphish there is no embarrassing vibration/420rpm dip. I am going to call PCNA and see if my car is covered. 2004 TT 116K

My 09 GTS has 72k miles and something causing a check engine light. Don't have Durametric yet but suspicious it's plug coils. Would it be covered by PCNA?

My coil saga continues: https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...lted-coil.html
Unless it's a matter of principle, I'd seriously consider doing it yourself. Replacing the coils takes less time than the drive to your dealer. I just inspected six and replaced one in my driveway in about 15 minutes.

I received my new coils today. So i starI received my new coils today. So i started taking the old ones out.
Now i see there is oil on the coil from the lower cilinder bank. Also spark plug is dirty. What does this mean? Head gasket seal maybe?
oil dripped here as well as you can see

That's what i was thinking. Not so familiar with the english terms yet ^^ I am going to do this myself. Do i need the gasket or can i just silicone the old one? I checked for the gasket on ebay and they are only available in pairs for about 80-100 usd Silicone will do fine i think.
Is there a DIY for this somewhere?
