I hear clicking....
Has anyone else heard a clicking form the right rear of the car (almost as if the right rear blinker is on, but it's not)? This sound usually starts a couple of minutes after I start the car and continues for a minute or so, and then stops. I started noticing it once the really cold weather set in a few weeks ago.
I am wondering whether this is somehow heating system related...

What's back there......
DSP Audio amplifier....I'll go on record saying 'highly unlikely'.
CDChanger ... highly likely, given the nature of the unit indexing thru all available slots to determine how many discs are loaded.....per skl post above.
Rear A/C unit ..... don't know if this Cayenne is dual zone climate or not.
Hmmmn, what else is back there...............
Option 1D6 Tow Control Unit?
Rome, could you provide addtional info/car options....that would be helpful.

this is the post that made me think it was your vents.

No CD Changer or towing unit in my car. It almost sounds like the blinker is on, but it is not.
I think Rockitman is right-- this will be hard to reproduce for the dealer. Hopeful it will just go away like yours did and it is nothing serious.
Thanks Shamus, but it is in the rear...and the car is less than 2 months old, so it shouldn't be dusty the vents. (P.S. Havn't seen the one 4 sale in PO srqrd garage in while...sold?)

I saw it yesterday - Did I park next to you on 1 today?
The guts of the heating/ac system are contained in the Front (US) driverside wheel well if that helps at all.

I have heard of Cayennes making a clicking noise coming from the right rear of the car during cold starts when the leak diagnostic pump for the fuel tank system becomes noisy. What happens is for emissions purposes there is a pump under the right rear fender liner that pressurizes the fuel tank, carbon canister and all the lines to see if there is a leak which could let fuel vapor into the atmosphere. If the pump gets noisy you will hear a clicking sound on cold starts that sounds almost exactly like a turn signal. If you can get it to happen, run outside the car and listen by the right rear fender liner.

THanks. That's helpful/ I am actually taking it in to the dealer this Friday to have it looked at. Do you know whether this is a "defect" which PCA replaces or is it normal. It's annoying and, as far as I'm concerned, that pump shouldn't be noisey.

Hey guys. Moved up my appointment and had the dealer look at the problem today.
They were able to activate the pump with a diagnostics computer and recreate the noise without having to wait for a cold weather start. Dealer acknowledged that they heard exactly what I was talking about. The tech explained that he has heard the same sound in some cayennes, but not others, and unless the pump was not functioning properly, they could probably not get Porsche to replace it as a warranty item just because it is noisey. He agreed inquire about it further with the powers that be, but I have a feeling I know what the answer will be (for now).
I am concerned that the noise means there is some defect which will later (i.e. post- warranty) manifest itself and the pump will fail. I plan on following up with the dealer on an ongoing basis to see if I can get this replaced if the noise persists.

Funny how some dealers are. I told my dealer I thought something was wrong with my coling fans - when the second fan came on the car made a moaning sound. They replaced both fans without a question. As it happened to turn out, it was not the cooling fan, but the electric water pump for the ac/heat that was groaning. They will replace that mid-January.
Does anyone know what the checks/balances are for warranty work - is it like an HMO where they get credit for fewer warranty jobs - otherwise seems like there would be no incentive for them not to get paid for all sorts of warranty work.
