Default TPMS retrofit on rims

There are many options to but used 20" rims for the Cayenne, but most of them do not have TPMS (RDK). Is it possible to retrofit the system to those rims? How much would it cost?

Thanks

Providing your car has RDK receiver,yes..you can retro fit RDK to any wheel.(I did on my 22"s),just order it through Porsche,,i think it was about £350 for 4 sensors.

It is the unit that picks up and reads the radio signal transmitted from the sensors in the tire valves, and then sends it to the dashboard display...The car has to have been ordered with this from
the factory..I dont think this part can be retro fitted.

RDK...is the abbreviation for Tyre Pressure Monitor in German (roughly translated)

Thanks. Is it necessary to bring the car to the Porsche dealer to install them or it could be done in any tire specialist?

Mikla, you can add the TPMS sensors to any Porsche wheel. I have them on my Cayenne and on three different sets of tires. Make sure that your vehicle has the TPMS system. It takes about ten - fifteen minutes for the system to detect the sensors. Good Luck!!

any tire specialist can fit them for you..but if you dont buy them from porsche, make sure they are the same frequency as your receiver.

please note....if you are transporting other wheels in your cayenne which also have the sensors on them, the TPMS will not work,as it will try to get readings from ALL the sensors, and get confused!!!

Mine actually gave me this warning : TOO MANY SENSORS !! , when driving back from the tyre specialist with my 19"s in the back...

I've just spoken with the Porsche dealer and they didn't know if the sensors could be retrofitted or not (!). How are the sensors attached to the rims?. Are they glued?.

If I buy the rims I would bring them to an independent shop. This is why I'm asking.

Thanks in advance

Mikla, the transmitters that go onto the rims are screwed on, no adhesive is used. I am not sure how the sensors are attached to the vehicle as I have never seen the ones on my car. Adding the transmitters to the rims can be done by your independent tire shop. Not sure what to do if your Cayenne does not already have the TPMS sensors.

Thanks guys,

My Cayenne has the TPMS. I have 18" Turbo rims and this is no issue. But it seems that here in Spain there's no knowledge on this: I've been told that they don't know if it is possible to retrofit. Thanks to you guys for letting me know it is possible.

Cay-ute, if the transmitters are screwed on, do I need to screw the rims?. Is there any specific way to do this?

Regards

here someone posted this before, just order the parts and show this to your tire place. Hope this helps, it looks like he retrofitted it on the OZ canyon wheels.

I got mine from Tirerack.com and had an independent car shop put them on my snow tires. Any mechanical/tire shop should be able to do it. I did notice when I was driving home with the summer tires in the back, the monitor was acting up due, to I think, 8 sets of transmitters in the truck!

mikla,...sorry for some confusing/conflicting posts..here is the truth straight from my Tire Specialist:

quote:

Dear John

The sensors fix to the rear of the Porsche air valve. This is done with one
single, small threaded bolt into the tyre valve. They are easy to remove but
as the original bolt is pre-treated with a thread-locking compound the
person fitting them should apply some fresh locking compound to the threads
before putting the bolts back in.

So it is basically threaded into the valve, with adhesive to hold it in place.See also the following link,(under Transponder)

Dear John,

Thanks so much for your help. I now have all the ideas quite clear and I'll go and buy my second rim set, that I plan to use for summer only. This set has the Pirelli tyres, any feedback on them?

Regards
