Thoughts CTT or 997 C4S - a binary situation
Hi All...
In my ongoing saga of whether to make my first p-car a CTT or a 997 C4S, I would like to do a simple unscientific poll.
Say you're me...you've always driven sports cars, you've had amateur track level experience, you once owned a jeep grand cherokee which was OK and served its purpose by living in Manhattan at the time...you love your little modified Audi TT because it's quick (note, not fast) and fun to drive - and it has AWD and can get around Boston 365 days a year except for 1-2 days at which time my wife's Subaru is God.
I enjoyed my CTT test drive and love the thing - I don't care that some people think it's ugly or not a 'real' Porsche. Obviously, I love the 911 - anyone who doesn't isn't likely to be found in my world.
I have ONE parking space for MY car in Boston.
Now Porsche starts showing off the new 997 C4S - yummy!
So,...you live in the city, there are pot holes and lots of snow, you presently drive a sports car which only gets 2-3 flats per year from the pot holes - YOU CAN CHOOSE ONLY ONE - an '06 CTT or a '06 C4S.
Your thoughts please.

If u have a winter car as a backup, I'd definitely go for the C4S. I live in Toronto so its similar conditions but I need a winter car so I am lucky enough to have both 911 and CT.

I owned a 02 996 TT, I loved the car but I never used it, I live in CT but work in Manhattan so I only drive at weekends and usually do family things with my kids. I then had remorse and got a used 03 996 C4S that I vowed to use as a daily driver, but it didn't work so I kept it for the summer and sold it for a marginal loss. I recently bought a Cayenne TT. While it is no substitute for a 911 in any respect, if your scenario is like mine (i.e. a 911 would be used for an hour once every 2 weeks), then driving a Cayenne TT as a daily driver instead of a Ford explorer is a great compromise.
I love the Cayenne to drive, just got back from a weekend in upstate New York, fabulous on the highway and the back roads plus I had a bunch of junk like hiking stuff etc. Perfect for a single car.
When my sons are older or I quit working I will get a GT3 as the real Porsche.

IMHO the 997 C4S looks very sexy, but...
CTT 0-60: 5.2 seconds (Tiptronic)
C4S 0-60: 5.1 seconds (manual)/5.6 seconds (Tiptronic)
So the moral is don't choose the C4S because of performance

Thanks all for the advice...I'm thinking!
356 Driver - the 0-60 times for the C4S on the Porsche site are actually for the 996 setup. The 997 C4S per Porsche is mid 4s...i.e. about the same as the Carrera S 997.
However, the 'bottom' line is that there all FAST!

Is option #5 (neither, I'd own one car, but neither would be a 996 or Cayenne) available?
Choose a 996 (excluding a Turbo, GT2 or GT3) and you are playing Russian roulette wtih the RearMainSeal issue.
Choose a CT and you are playing Russian roulette with oil consumption (1qt/1K miles, vibration, and a host of other defects, features, gremlins).
Just my 2 cents.

I agree that acceleration isn't everything but I couldn't resist digging at the published 0-60 times. I'm not surprised the ones on the web site are obsolete, but even the 996 C4S was a satisfactory experience to most people until the 997's came out. Anyway, someone took my post seriously enough to respond.
The fact is that the best overall performing Porsche (acceleration, handling, braking) may not arrive until September. Yes, the Cay--- Oooh, now I goofed. This is not what any self-respecting 911-er wants to hear. Let the flames begin...

OK,...so I went out to Ira Porsche today and met with Rennlister Alfie. I gotta admit, I am leaning strongly toward a C4S...I do love the CTT but it may have to wait in favor of a 911.
BTW, thanks Alfie.
Anyone thinking of buying a new pcar in the Boston area should pop by Ira (Danvers, MA) and meet with Alfie...a nice guy and very knowledgeable.
Thanks all for your input....gears are turning...TBC

Dave you have a # for Alfie - I've been unsuccessful getting the guy i've been dealing with there to call me back.
I saw a nice CTT in Burlington that will be heavily discounted due to the unsightly rear mounted 5th wheel...not my thing, but if you don't mind it you could get it for a very attractive price.
