V6 Cayenne to be discontinued?
I went by the local dealer today to start looking into the purchase of a V6 Cayenne to use as my new company car.
The salesman told me that the one new V6 they had in stock would be the last one ever available in Canada as Porsche is dropping the V6 in North America as no one is interested in buyng a manual transmission nor a V6 in a Cayenne
Is this true ?
What is the total count of V6 Cayenne's imported ? What sort of depreciation will these have ?
Tx in advance............

With all due respect to your local dealer - I don't think so. I just posted the MY06 preliminary order guides for the Cayenne's on RennTech.org... and the V6 is on both US and Canada order guides.

Sounds like BS to me...
I was told the opposite... that the V6 is in high demand due to limited supply, and that the resale value will be high due to such. I was told that Porsche will only make about 4,200 V6s this year vs. 15,000 S (V8) models.
I was told by my salesman that anytime that they are looking to do a dealer trade for an S, the other dealer wants to swap only if they get a V6 in exchange.
The same salesman told me that when he was at a dealer tour at Leipzig, he asked a Porsche marketing guy why they couldn't get more V6s to sell. The marketing guy's response was that it would increase growth by 30%, and that Porsche's infrastructure (factory, suppliers, dealers) couldn't handle it.
I'd be very surprised if they discontinued the V6. It is a superb vehicle in a very competitive market. Just like the Boxster vs. Boxster S and Carrera vs. Carrera S, Porsche will sell every "base model V6" Cayenne they produce... because of its refinement, build quality, performance, handling, engineering excellence, customer service, resale value... and of course, the driving experience that can't be found elsewhere.
Given the rumors that Porsche will instead bump the HP on the V6 in a couple of years, I'd be more inclined to believe that it is here to stay.

In fact, look for a real Porsche "V-6" for the Cayenne with more horesepower that will also be used in the new 4-door sedan that will be "loosly" sharing the Cayenne platform.
Why do you think Porsche has spent so much money on the "V-8" and "V-8 Turbo" motors?

From what I’ve read, only the basic block is sourced from VW. Porsche tweaks and tunes it to make it behave and sound like a Porsche… much like they tweak and program the Tiptronic tranny from Japan that is put into all Cayenne models.
Thanks for the info… I look forward to getting a “real” Porsche V6 someday!!
P.S. Is there a VW-Porsche forum on Rennlist that embraces parts-sharing models where V6 owners can commiserate with others… I suppose mostly with 914 and 924 owners?

Porsche Boxster Sales Up 82 Percent
ATLANTA, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced April retail sales in the United States totaled 3,065 cars, a decrease of 8 percent compared to April of last year. At the same time, it was the second best April in the company's history, with Boxster sales increasing dramatically and dealers unable to meet the demand for Porsche's new 911 models.
"With spring has come great interest in our sports cars," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. "We simply don't have enough cars on hand to fill demand."
In addition, dealers sold 537 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, compared to 453 for the same period last year.

From what I've heard, Porsche actually limits the product of the V6 because their margins are much higher on the S (and Turbo, of course), not because of lack of demand.
They would prefer everyone buy an S.
