Just to clear a few things up...
I could care less about which emblem is on the front, unless fuel type and price are the same, in which case I would go with the Porsche. I don't mind the price of the diesel and would not get a used S just because I could save a few bucks.
What I really want is the diesel, unless it is not as impressive as I expect it to be, which does not seem to be a problem from the few here that have actually driven one.
As far as fuel issues and maint costs, I doubt very seriously the long term cost will be higher on the diesel. I have had many diesel motors, in cars, P/U, class 8 trucks, Motorcoach and boats, there is no way a gasoline motor would have performed as well for less money in terms of fuel and maint. costs. I have spent up to $40k/mo. buying diesel fuel, so I know where to get good fuel and in the areas I will travel the most, diesel usually averages less per gal. than premium gas.
I appreciate all of you leaving your feedback!

That said, most of us don't drive around using full power all the time. The TDI Touareg gets 24 mpg highway. That's up to 10 mpg better than what I hear most Cayenne S owners get.
I'm telling you, it is an amazing truck. They just cost too much.

Colin, I'm jealous. I'm only getting 10mpg towing my aluminum trailer (and that's with the V6). Total load is under 4,000 lbs. Of course the Cayenne is so stable I too often look down and am going 75-80mph. I bet if I slowed it down a bit (and probably should) I might see a bit better mileage.

I normally get 10mpg or so towing the Cup car and I get about 13mpg or so towing the trailer empty (well, just my son's kart in the back....pretty empty).
The fuel stop at 220 miles is normally when the "Please Refuel Now" warning comes on the dash, so it's time to find a station and fill up again. Sorry, I should have been more clear.
(Of course, thanks to the Cayenne's factory tow control unit (actually made by Westfalia IIRC) not working worth a S#*T with LED lighting, I drive with the "!" lit the whole time due to "Check Trailer Lights", so sometimes I miss the "!" for "Please Refuel Now"....but that's a story for another day)

Do you run Road Atlanta often? I'm trying to run with the Peachstate PCA there sometime soon. That's a tough ticket to get.....I've applied twice the day the applications opened and didn't get in. I'd really like to run that track though (never have).
Sorry to hear you are having some "bugs" with your Cayenne. Mine develops a new problem every other day. It's no longer as much frustrating as it is entertaining. To quote Forrest Gump, driving the Cayenne is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.
