I test drove a V10 last week, the power was very good, and for the money, you get a lot of truck.. but its hard to fork over $60K for a used VW when a used turbo Cayenne is about 17-20K more.

True, but the TDI isn't really meant to compete with the CT.

The TDI is bred to tow, the CT is bred to play. I wouldn't want to tow with a CT's engine, especially with the oil consumption 'discussions'.

As several here have postulated, VW is both experiencing "issues" with the motor, and their aftersales groups are less than sanguine about long term exposure to retailed diesel fuels currently available in the US. It's unfortunate, really - the TDI is very "punchy" - and in it's own way a very, very good drive.
Good quality LSD (not the Timothy Leary kind) is pretty rare in the US....

My guess is the diesel was made for Europe. Agreed the tow capacity is great, but it's limited by the tongue weight capacity, resulting in underused capacity. That will increase with the longer wheelbase with an extra row of seats.

And that would be the Audi Pike's Peak.

Do you think they would give Audi the V10? I'll bet the Pikes Peak will have a TT...

Kinda funny reading this forum as I am currently looking at a dual engine plane that has two turbo diesel inline-four's powering it...

And of course the "base engine" is derived from a "European 1.8" motor and then "aviation ized" by another company that sells the motor as it's own as the "Thielert Centurion 1.7"....
