Tiptronic downshift
When I downshift using an accelerator blip, the CS typically drops down to 3rd gear, even if I am in 5th or 6th. My 993 Tip drops 1 gear. Under hard left foot braking and blip, the CS seems to be less likely to drop 2/3 gears. I haven't spent much time with it, but has anyone else experienced a drop of 2 or 3 gears under accelerator shifting? Or, (more likely) what the h--l am I doing wrong? The 993 has always performed as expected.

Michael: I wasn't real clear. It has not dropped below 3rd, but has dropped from 6 to and 5 to 3. I guess my experiences are similar to yours, and that implies that one might not want to downshift this way from 6th gear.

Speaking of Tiptronic, I can never start in 1st and aggressively and smoothly progress through the gears while trying for fast starts. I ALWAYS miss it and end up redlining it. Man I hate that. It rev's pretty quick and whammo, you've redlined before you know what hit you. I guess it's best to just turn off PSM, let the car shift and go for it. Think I probably need a lesson on Tiptronic, or maybe it's just as simple as "pay attention".

The old way is still working to my knowledge, it takes John a few days to change your status.

In a hard down acceleration it downshifts 3 gears at MOST even using PSM OFF, not more, I did not experienced more in my CayS lifetime...It's the way they PROGRAMMED it!...
If you want to go LOWER, then use tiptronic to force Cay to go DOWN...
Still I LOVE it more THAN any 911...I drive it more often...I like more LUX utility...But if I would live in Frankfurt PERMANENTLY, I would be driven 911 for autobahn LEFT-LANE-FREEDOM-INDEPENDENCE...

Interesting side note:
I recently drove a Boxster with Tiptronic (loaner). Never having driven a P-Car with an automatic, I assumed that the Cay's tranny issues were just unique to that vehicle. Not so. The Boxster displayed many of the same quirks as have been noted here in the Cay forum. This includes the "hesitation" when downshifting, starting out in 2nd and etc.... Very interesting. I found the tip even MORE annoying with the Boxster. I'm starting to lust after a manual CT. Dream on.
Probably more realistic is to ask for a SMG unit. The folks over at Audi seem to have a good one. Perhaps they'd trade for a few CT engines or a 997 Cabrio...

ozr: I may have been unclear. I want it to downshift only one gear on a throttle downshift. It typically goes down to 3rd, irrespective of whether I'm in 6th or 5th (or 4th).
