Default What is the penelty for driving above 100 Mph

This Cayenne is the ultimate craziness machine. Lately I've been driving faster and faster on the highways due to the smoothness and stability of that sweet monster.

Today the road was empty and smooth, next thing I realized is that monster of mine got unleashed and I was going about 110 mph

Just wondering, if the police caught me driving that fast, what would be my penalty? Just a ticket or more than that? Keep in mind that I was doing 110 mph in a 55 mph highway, which is about double the speed limit

I never owned a radar detector before, but I guess now is time to get one

It varies by state, and how well you can plea bargain with the local prosecutor. A quick check with one of the atttorneys at the gym I use yielded the following response for the state of NJ, "he would most likely be looking at a loss of his license, community service and some rather stiff fines, as well as a substantial (2-3x) increase in his insurance premiums. If the judge really wanted to send him a message, there is always potential jail time, depending upon his previous driving record."

I too have pushed the envelope and driven in excess of 125, as well all probably have, but only for short periods of time on stretches of the highway that I know do not have any place for the state police to hide. I am still putting my license at risk, as there is always the chance I may get caught by an airborne radar trap. Be very careful where you let your beast out to play ...

Get one asap. Most of the contributers to this and other boards recommend Valentine V1. I own one and hardily recommend it (I also use the same one on my bike).

I believe that you would not be driving home.
Your car would be towed to the police impound, you would be driven to the station and you would lose your license until your mandatory court appearance.

here in Chicago you would be arrested and charged with reckless driving + have license suspended. I always go slightly above the speed limit (20mph) or so then the fastest car around. No tickets in last 3-4 years.

Double the speed limit = felony

You put yourself at the mercy of bureaucrats known as the justice system.

If you get caught going 110 your most probably going to jail. I was driving back from New York a year back I think deetz was with me and I got caught speeding 92 on a 55. The cop threatned that he had the right to arrest me he didnt however and gave me a chance, but the fine was pretty high wreckless driving and 85 on a 55

Do yourself a favor and do some DEs. Once you've driven on a track, going fast on the highway is boring.

Noble comments.....

But let's face it, most people buy Pcars to go fast. Most don't have the time or inclination to do DEs.

Get a radar detector, it will save you money - during the period you're trying to "kick" your speed inclination.

Jamy is right, above 80mph you can get your car towed + jail. But I just had a speeding ticket with my x5 and yeah double the speed limit 110 at 55, I just got a 550ticket and thats it.

Holy crap. I guess I should put off moving back to the states for a while. You guys have me sufficiently scared. I will perhaps buy some of that spray they advertise that reflects the flash used from those cameras they use over here.

here is the states we are still in the sone age as far as speed trap technology. In most places it is the cope with the radar and the good old chase. More and more cities are installing camera's at the larger intersections. Jammer is what we all need but I guess then need to be passive or somethin.
