Default Backup lights

I've been driving my TT nearly a year now with only a single minor problem that was easily corrected.....BUT....I am now at my whits end because the backup lights on the Cayenne are absolutely worthless. They are mounted too high and have such limited intensity that even on a pitch black unlighted driveway I don't have a clue as to what is behind me. Do any of you have any solutions for this problem ?

On another truck I had with the same problem. I hooked up 2 ball type foglights and mounted them either side of the spare wheel underneath. It was also usefull when I was camping, the whole campsite would light up. :-)

I would put a relay in the back, switched from the reversing lamp circuit, there are 2 wire holes which come out behind the bumper at each side, these could be used to feed the power to the lights. If you decide to do it I think I have some pictures of the holes that might help you locate them.

Have to agree the back up lights and visability are terrible. I was going to try halogen upgrade lights like i have on my 911. In either case without the parktronic I would have no way of knowing if i was about to hit something while backing up. Sounds like Porsche should include the rear camera as standard equipment.

I was told they would work under low light conditions. Hell for $1600 they should at least do that. Besides the camera will be focused on the part of the road that is being illuminated by the back up lights that you can't see from the drivers seat.

Thanks for your suggestions.....Yes I would like to take you up on your offer of the hole locations. I'm not an off roader so mounting under the bumper doesn't bother me. I back out of a long dark driveway with curves and I'm tired of running over my lawn.

If you have the 7pin trailer plug, you could always just plug into the reverse light connection there as well.

Is Mudman2 still in the building? Would like to see the location of those holes or how to feed wires to the rear bumper for either small LED fogs or driving lights for backup lights Would like to avoid drilling if there are grommets.
Have been thinking of a switched relay solution too.

these, or maybe just one, can be discreetly hidden under or in the rear bumper and should provide ample light

They look better than the LEDs but the S has no hitch. Might search for some smaller LEDs which are less obvious. If Razman is successful with resistors and the light is vastly improved that would be my choice.
