Is this really any different then what happened to Mazada, and the Miata disaster the led to the re-purchase of a ton of Miata's?

its about two stage deployment.. not about advertising but about how the airbag deployment is described in the owners manual.. i had the letter and tossed it.. but someone willing enough.. can probably get some $$ out of this.. from what i recall.. the airbag is listed to have 2 stage deployment but in fact is not.. read the manual about the airbags, then disregard it - there's ur letter

class action time., some people will surely call this misleading advertising and want their money back for the cayenne, citing that 2 stage airbags was the only reason they bought this car.
yes its insane, but in this society, its going to happen and you know it.

Don't have my manual handy but both the Cayenne and Touareg were written up all over the web as having dual-stage bags.
It wasn't the only reason that I bought the Cayenne but it was one of my criteria since I was coming out of a vehicle that with dual-stage air bags.
This is also more of an issue when smaller folks are going to be in the front seats. I have several people (not children) driving or riding in the front of my Cayenne that are under 95lbs so it is a concern for me.
Wasn't there new (or was it just proposed) regulation in the US that mandated dual-stage bags by 2005?

Got the letter a couple days ago about the airbag deal. My CS was a May build this year. Never did get a letter about the valve retainer repair needed on the GT3- found out when it was in for a DME reflash- the dealer said nothing could be done until that was completed. Requires removing engine and tearing into the engine- would have been nice to notify me. If Porsches weren't such great cars, they'd have been belly up a long time ago as their customer relations suck!

Moogle,
People will probably do it
I remember the mazda rx-8 you can return it because of the wrong HP info Mazda were buying them back, and giving the owners option. This is just horspower and nothing to do with safety, airbag will have a better fight.

i suppose it was producing less horsepower than advertised, however, even if it was producing MORE than advertised, you may get those people that claim it is too powerful for their original intended use, or some other crap.
i was referencing some of the posts where people came onto the forums to complain about what were really minor 'niggles' with their newly acquired porsches, and then saying how aweful porsche was and not giving them enough hugs... basically covering up for the fact they made a mistake and it wasnt the right car for them in the first place.
(carrera GT clutch anyone) - im going to have an opportunity to drive a CGT in the next few weeks, and im going to expose them for the whiners they really are.
but gotta love those laws when they are used to protect consumers for REAL manufactuer mistakes.
